Works great as a 5 GHZ range extender . This box works great as a 5 GHZ range extender (which is why I bought it). Just place the router and this box on the same, fixed RF channel. Then configure the router for WDS with the MAC of this box, and configure this box for WDS with the MAC of the router. Give this box a different SSID than the router, and use the built-in wireless adapter of the PC's to connect to this box. I'm using WPA2 (AES) on my entire network and it works fine with this little box. I needed this box to reach the lower floor of the house which is some distance away from the dual band wireless router, so it's installed on the lower floor. I noticed that 5 GHZ doesn't have the range or penetration through walls and doors as 2.4 GHZ, so I thought I'd try this box and it works great. A good price and fast shipping once again from Amazon. Thanks!

Cons Review
Competent in the 2.4 Ghz band not so much at 5Ghz . I have a bunch of devices that are 802.11g only so I run two wireless networks in my house, a 5GHz 802.11n network for newer, more capable devices and a 2.4Ghz 802.11g network for the older devices so they won't slow down the newer ones. This access point seemed like a perfect way to reduce the number of boxes I manage. It did ok as a 2.4Ghz 802.11g access point (similar in speed, but more reliable than a 5+ year old Linksys WAP54G), but it isn't very good at hosting a 5Ghz 802.11n network. It is significantly slower than my circa 2007 Apple AirPort Extreme under almost all conditions (usually by more than a factor of 2) and its throughput drops off precipitously with distance.
Considering the cost the lower performance v. the AirPort Extreme might be a reasonable tradeoff, but its 5Ghz 802.11n network was also unreliable. I could never get the MAC address filtering to work for the 5Ghz network (I could on the 2.4 Ghz) and it would frequently drop my iPad, even in the same room.
This one is going back to Amazon. Going to see how the 2010 AirPort Extreme works out.
