Great Adapter . this adapter outshines linksys adapters by leaps and bounds goes from 2 bars to a minimum of 4 often hitting 5bars well worth the money this is my 4th one i bought for all the systems in my house . a must have for long distance wireless connections .4 bars through 2 walls and 200 ft away. would recommend this in a flash

Excellent Ad-Hoc Wireless Router/Transmitter For Windows XP SP3 . After reading about this product for quite a while, I decided to go with this version with out the 9dbi antenna as it was reported to be a disappointment and not an improvement over the 5dbi one. The package arrived on time as advertised. The device+antenna are pretty light and well constructed. I bought a separate 10ft mini-USB/male USB cable to plug the device into my computer so that I could place the device outside of the room.
I installed the driver/utility on the included mini disc without incident except for the fact that the final part of the installation kept freezing the first time around but was successful the second time w/o uninstalling before trying again. The utility is excellent because it allows you to easily set the parameters of the device.
Running XP SP3 I had intended to use this device as an ad-hoc wireless router. However, this can not be done successfully via the control panel+Network Connections. Instead the utility must be used. This is not a problem as the program runs in the background w/ a tray icon for easy accessibility.
The range on this product is excellent. I have a large old house with winding hallways/rooms making for redundant walls that could interfere with signal strength. However I can confidently say that the entire house and beyond is covered, upstairs and down (the device is in the upstairs hallway).
However if you are using an iPhone (as I am) or other similar receiving device, the limited power of the phone's antenna prevents utilization of the ALFA's capabilities in terms of maximum range. Another issue I'd like to note is that you will not be able to connect multiple devices simultaneously using WPA2-PSK w/ AES encryption. I do not have knowledge of why this is. Switching to WPA-PSK w/ AES solves this problem.
Overall, this is an excellent product that is easy to configure. You might not be able to surf the web at the edge of your yard due to the limitations of your receiving device, but your house will be saturated with a strong signal giving whatever wifi device you have all the help it can get.
Highly recommended as an ad-hoc router! In reference to its abilities in terms of a plain old wifi antenna I can't comment as I am not using it for this purpose. But it's a safe bet that the device is similarly proficient in this area.

In love with this thing !! . I bought the Alfa AWUS036H after reading all the great reviews. I LOVE this wifi adapter. Works in all types of operating systems. All the drivers are online at the Realtek website. I had to download it for Windows 7 x64 because the CD did not have it (this was not a big deal at all). I prefer to download drivers from websites since they are always up to date. I used to pick up only 2 access points with my Belkin N USB adapter...this thing picks up over 10 !!! On top of that...they are almost all 4-5 bars. Best purchase I have ever made.

Buy it! . Surprised this only has a few reviews... but this thing is increased my signal and available networks significantly. If you want a great adapter capable of packet injection/security testing or just to get online, this is it!
Great . This is a great product. I've been using it for a month and I always get a fast connection.
Windows XP only otherwise crashes windows . This product should really be a 5-star product. The only reason that I am not giving it 5 stars is because there are no drivers to support windows vista or later. Tested on both windows vista and windows 7, both cause blue screens like crazy.This product works amazing and does not disrupt the stability of a windows xp machine. This works great for my laptop, I am able to access wireless networks from a much greater distance than any built in or external wireless card I've tested. Downsides:

Great . This range adapter works great. I have not had any problems using it so far. It picks up a great signal for me to use throughout my house.

all around good product. it came in handy when my father was on the far end of the house and asked me why the internet was so slow. i told him because he's so far from the router he's getting bad reception. then i let him use this and he was GOOD TO GO. it picks up wireless signal that a normal laptop would not be able to pick up so well. want to check your email outside but your router is inside? NO PROBLEM!

Fantastic! . I live around multiple Wifi networks and wanted to connect more then one for higher speed. Using this I got perfect signals from the average signals I usually get with my current wifi card and also got a couple extra signals from farther away. Great product!
Good but a bit overrated . For a computer or laptop with an average wifi adapter, this is a good product for you. But if your antennae is anything but average, even a little bit above average, its not worth the money.

My subdivision runs a subscription wifi service, and since Im on the fringes of the subdivision, my connection is somewhat below average. My pleas to extend the service range were ignored, so I bought this so I could have better use of the wifi.
But to my dismay, this product didnt seem to help at all.
I guess I will just have to get my own wifi.
