SonicWALL TZ 100 Wireless Network Security Appliance 01-SSC-8735 231
This review is from : Tz 100 Wireless-n Network Security Appliance
Exceptional product but requires some learning or skillz . Remarkable flexibility, powerful security, a seriously awesome piece of hardware, esp for this price point. Can even add load balancing of two high speed connections if you have them (cable+dsl or fios, etc.). took a while to get this one up and running through a lot of trial and error. The manual available online is intimidating to say the least. but great fun and learned a lot with this thing. just felt compelled to write a + review after the 1 star the other reviewer provided. yes, very complex product and certainly not designed to replace your typical router, this is corp level capability in an inexpensive box, and the flexibility is incredible now having set up a bunch of rules, signed up for the protection services. this is a 6 star product.

Tz 100 Wireless-n Network Security Appliance Reviews
Works well when it's working . We have 4 of these and they are not for beginners. Luckily we are not beginners so they were easy to set up and use.
The good; Tons of options. very stable, needs very few restarts (other than the wireless). Site to site VPN works great, never drops. Good features and great price. Firewall is very robust and you can feel safe using it.
The bad; The wireless is inconstant. Sometimes you cant connect even if you are 4 feet away.
The SSL vpn is very inconstant. Many errors in the log about http auth, etc. Seems to have a mind of it's own.
Support has gone downhill. You have to pay each year for updated firmware. They are slow to respond, and sometimes it seems we know more about the unit than they do.
For hardwired firewall protection, this thing is great. If you want the rest of it to work, good luck. We will probably not be buying anymore.

Tz 100 Wireless-n Network Security Appliance Opinions
A great low cost fully featured firewall . If you don't use a Sonicwall regularly, it can take some getting used to. It had been a couple years, so it took a little bit to remember all the requirements to get things to work properly. For example, I set up firewall rules that didn't work until I remembered how the NAT Policies had to be configured which also took some troubleshooting to remember the proper configuration. But once the device was up and working - everything was working great. Very reliable firewall and the built-in wifi is nice. More features than most small businesses might need, but that's a good thing that they are there if needed.

Another excellent product from SonicWALL . Unbelievable performance for the price-point. If you have only half a brain, then you might want to stick with your linksys. But if you are capable, and require more advanced firewall features (including high speed), then this is a great fit. We are using these for home office users to connect them to the main office securely. Has support for multiple zones. (WAN/LAN/DMZ/WLAN)
It seems like the only bad reviews on here are not product related, but rather incompetence related. i.e. "I don't know how to use it (and/or I don't feel like registering my product to get support), so it's bad."

Cons Review
Too Advanced For Me . I guess I am spoiled with the convenience and ease of the Linksys & D-Link router of my passed, with simple plug and play settings and user friendly configuration programs. The Sonic Wall TZ100 is extremely well designed for the best protection out there, yet unless you are well versed in network terminology you will be dependent on their tech support and fees. For those needing extreme security, this would be the way to go. I like to be able to adjust the settings of my network and due to my "ignorance" I can not use it to it's potential, so for me I may have spent more money than needed.
What's not to like? EDIT: uptime support . This is an industrial strength business router. Rock solid reliable, chock full of features.
A beginner might get some basic functionality out of this router through the wizards. I couldn't be sure but it seems possible. I want to recommend this for a beginner, but can't.
On the other hand, an IT expert is rewarded with immense functionality & customizable options. Once you learn the SonicWall "way" it is very sensible, and as an added bonus applies fairly universally across SonicWall devices big and small.
Out of the box features include rate limiting, decent metrics reporting, IPS firewall, VPN tunnels, "real" DMZ ability and a bunch more. Good stuff!
EDIT: After over a month living with this product, I am sorely disappointed. I've overseen numerous SonicWall configurations, but this device is unreliable. Unable to go more than 7 days at a stretch without failure. Furthermore, I don't feel particularly convinced the support staff really want to resolve the issues. Demoting from 5 stars to 2. For shame SonicWall. For shame.
EDIT: 3/8 After two months, support is a disaster. It's disorganized, misguided and has been a complete waste of my time - and a lot of time at that, as I tried to play nice until my client told me "we want our old router back". Now I am trying to get a refund, but SonicWall is putting up resistance all over the place.

RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!! . Thinking SonicWall? Think again! I have a SonicWall unit that is less than 10 months old. It hasn't worked for 3 months. The tech support is out of the US, has unbelievably long wait times (as long as 50 minutes wait on one call) and when you finally do get through they are not only absolutely useless, bu they refuse to honor their warranty! RUN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!
Non-existent tech support . Out of the box the unit had a defective software Wizard (no way to proceed) "Next" button missing. I called their non-tech support and was basically told I would have to pay for support. I was flabergasted. When I explained the wizard or firmware was defective I got no response. I was like...what am I supposed to do..."well we will offer you support but you have to pay for it. I explained "you don't understand, this is brand new...help me here..are you telling me I get NO SUPOPORT" That's correct. I let them know I would be posting negative reviews on Amazon...they were like "Ok"

Not for amateurs . After doing some considerable research for a wireless router that could provide content filtering while allowing for fast connections with multiple wireless and wired computers, I settled on the Sonicwall TZ100 Wireness N Router. This router has received some very good reviews elsewhere. I have set up several wireless routers without any difficulty, and I was optimistic that I would have this one up and running within an hour. Be forewarned, however, that the Sonicwall TZ100 is an entirely different animal from any other off-the-shelf wireless router. The initial setup is familiar, connect a LAN cable from the router to a computer and another LAN cable from the router to your high speed modem. The next step is to access the TZ100 through your web browser by typing in the IP address for the router. No problem, the IP address is even specified in the "Quick-Start" Guide (a name which I suspect is an inside joke). When I got to the start screen for the router, I was asked for a username and password. Huh? This is the initial setup, so where do I get the username and password? That was my first experience with customer support. I called at 9:00 pm on a Sunday and was told I would need to call back 9-5 Monday through Friday, which is not easy since I was trying to setup at home, and I work during those hours. I managed to make a call from work, and after waiting 20 minutes for a support technician, I opted instead for e-mail support. I sent out my email and waited three days for a response, which included the helpful information that the default username and password are "admin" and "password." So I tried again, and was rewarded with a remarkable array of menus to setup the router, some helpful and some remarkably obscure. After three hours of trial and error, I was able to get the LAN computers on-line, but I could not get wireless access to the Internet from any laptops. I set the WPA2 PSK password, but efforts to use that password with the wireless computers yielded error messages. Same problem with any other security protocol I tried. I never did figure out how to set the content filtering, and never saw a menu item for it either. I was not interested in another three-day wait for an e-mail response to a problem that should not be a problem. The good news is that AMAZON and BUY.com made the return very easy (just save the packaging!). I suspect that computer technicians could figure this router out fairly easily, but it is not for amateurs, not even experienced amateurs like myself.
