The PEXESAT32 2 Port PCI Express 6Gbps eSATA Controller Card offers simple connectivity between a host computer and eSATA 3.0 devices - a cost-effective solution for connecting high-speed storage, such as High RPM Hard Drives and Solid State Drives (SSD), which in turn allows for easier data backups and archiving. With full support for SATA 3.0 hard drives and data transfer speeds of up to 6 Gbps, the adapter card features a native PCI Express single chipset that provides enhanced compatibility, reliability and performance for external SATA 600 MB/s storage needs. The controller card is backward compatible with SATA 2.0 devices, providing the versatility to use older storage, and features support for RAID 0 and 1 modes as well as port multiplier capability with command-based and FIS-based switching for connecting multiple external hard drives to a host PC through a single external SATA connection. A dual profile solution, the eSATA controller card includes a low profile/half-height bracket for installation in slimline or small form factor computer cases.

Works fine following minor hiccup during install on Windows 7. . I popped this adapter into an HP d5000t running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (recently upgraded from Vista Ultimate 64-bit). My impression was that this would auto-configure on Windows 7, without the use of the supplied driver CD. Almost. One device entry, "Marvell 91xx Config Device", failed to configure. In Device Manager, I selected the entry, chose "Update Driver Software...", popped in the installation CD and pointed the update at it. Problem solved. Since the install, I've been running a number of diagnostic and benchmarking tests on a drive mounted in a Thermaltake BlacX eSATA external "enclosure" without incident. I'm quite satisfied with the device.
StarTech.com 2 Port SATA 6 Gbps PCI Express eSATA Controller Card (PEXESAT32) Reviews
No Mac OS X Driver . StarTech.com's other eSATA/PCIe cards have Mac OS X drivers available, but this one does not. The Amazon.com listing does not mention that it is not compatible with Mac OS X. I should have done more research, rather than just assuming...Because it didn't work on my computer, I can't speak to the card's effectiveness.
StarTech.com 2 Port SATA 6 Gbps PCI Express eSATA Controller Card (PEXESAT32) Opinions
Great Card . Only four stars due to poor tech support.
I installed the card and checked my device manager and it showed up under other devices code 10 needing a driver. I downloaded the driver and tryed everything I could imagine to get this devide to work. Used the CD as mentioned in an earlier post and nothing I did could get this driver to install. I called tech support he had me try a couple of things then told me it was defective and return it to the seller for a replacement. Well I read the item specifications again. Supported by WIN7 no additional drivers needed. So I hooked the thing up to my StarTech four drive enclosure, changed the settings from USB to ESATA on the enclosure and it was working. The port multipler was working all of the drives where there and I transfered a few files. Everything was great. I went back to device manager and disabled the device with the driver needed. The card is still working great. I believe that it is wanting me to install drivers for a raid controller. I don't want and don't need a raid controller. I just removed the device in device manager and everything still appears fine. If you want a port multiplyer or a quick way to transfer files from an attached enclosure with ESATA this is the way to go.
Plug-n-play in a Dell T7500 with 64-bit Windows 7 . Came with a CD but didn't need it for Windows 7. Plugged it in and was copying files within minutes. Haven't been able to test the transfer rates it claims to be capable of because the devices I have are too slow. Overall, I'm very satisfied and would buy another.
eSata card enhances my external hard drive speed . I have two external 1 Tb Fantom drives connected to my computer and was using USB2 connections but with the eSata connections the speed has been greatly enhanced. The price and delivery time were excellent using Amazon Prime (2-day delivery). Installation was a breeze with only 1 exception...the instructions said Windows 7 didn't reuire using the included CD because it already had the necessary driver for the card. Even though it installed correctly, I had an exclamation point over the device in my Device Manager window but when I inserted the CD it found the driver and all was well.
Could not be happier . Excellent product; I initially got it for a Pioneer blue Ray burner; Then in a more complex project I wanted to use the other port with the meadiasonic enclosure which required port multiplier in order to recognize 4 separate hard disks. It worked wonderfully. This is one of the PCI which get the rating fantastic. Speed is much higher than the other devices USB and FW-800. Very very happy.
One of the best but with its glitches and quirks. . I built my workstation around Intel's WX58BP motherboard and the W3520 processor, running Windows 7 64 bits. I used a STARTECH ESATA II card initially to connect an external Seagate FreeAgent Pro drive. It worked well but I was not happy with the STARTECH card: one of my fans was running faster with this card in my system and my system was noisy. It did not make much logical sense that the card would do this, but I decided to upgrade to an ESATA III card to see if my fan would return to a slower speed. My drive is an ESATA II drive, but they are supposed to be compatible. Indeed my system was quieter with these new cards. I tried first the ASUS e3s6 and the Rosewill RC-226. The RC-226 card looks at first sight identical to the StarTech ESATA rev 3 card, using the same PCB, same components, but comes with its own drivers. In both cases all worked fine until my system went into sleep mode. After resuming from sleep often my drive would no longer appear in my system, or my system would completely hang and eventually crash when trying to access it. So at last I decided to try the StarTech rev 3 ESATA pcie card as the driver is already included in Windows 7. My system remained silent and my drive seemed to work fine, even after resuming from sleep. However, after resuming from sleep, if I went in the device manager, and did a "scan for hardware changes" my system would hang and eventually crash again. So I gave up on ESATA altogether for now, at least until I get a proper ESATA III drive, and I am now using my FreeAgent Pro as a USB drive: it works well (albeit not as fast), my system is quiet, have no problems after sleep, the drive always shows up in my system, it does not crash my system, and it does not hang my system in the device manager either. Unfortunately I had too many hangs and crashes and cannot comment on speed and performance.
What do you do? . What do you do when a staff member has a 1TB external drive that has been corrupted by a dying USB port? Also that staff person has complained about the speed of backup /restore from the drive.

If they have a desktop with an open slot of the correct type you get them this card and an ESTATA cable ( assuming the external drive has that connection, their drive was tri capable: USB, ESATA, FW ). Link the drive to the external port and with the correct OS to support the board, away they go !

Better speed all around,no cheap on board chip that will fail and a happy staffer...

Jacob
