This review is from : USB 2.0 Network Print Server with Ethernet Cable
Works great if you skip their included software. . First I'll start off by writing a brief review, then the details to follow. The print server works wonderfully once it's setup. The software included for Windows is a joke and only hinders the process. Now for my full review and instructions to make this work the way you want it...I bought a router with a built in print server. We have two mac computers and three windows computers on our small office network. We all needed to print, and we were all sending pdf's to one computer to do so. So we tried the Belkin 600+ router which was a joke. You had to check out the printer in order to use it. And once you could finally get permission, it would only print half of the time. So we returned it and bought this print server.I hooked it up, it recognized our HP Printer/Fax machine immediately, and I set it up according to the instructions on the Mac. Easy as pie. It uses bonjour to discover it and there was almost no installation time required. Also, even if the IP address changes for the printer, it still connects because it uses bonjour and not just an IP address. Then I went to a Windows XP machine. I installed the software, which there are two installs to make it work, restarted the computer, then was presented with the printer software upon startup. With this software, you have to "Connect" every time you want to use the printer. The reason for my quotes is because this simulates a USB hookup. This means that you have to request permission every time you want to use it on the Windows end, just like the Belkin router. This wasn't good enough for me (and my Windows XP machine would NOT connect) so I went another route, which I'll detail below. To make this print server work the way it SHOULD work, follow the below steps. (Make sure that all of the print server's software is uninstalled prior to following these steps)NOTE: These steps work the same in Windows XP and Windows 7!1) Get into your control panel, go to printers
2) Add new printer
3) Add a local printer (DO NOT CHOOSE NETWORK PRINTER)Also, do not check the "Automatically detect plug and play" or whatever it says here
4) Select the bottom option, Create New Port, Make it "Standard TCP/IP"
5) Enter the IP address of the printer (you'll have to find this out from your router software)
6) Locate the make and model and driver for your printer
7) Once done, it still won't work (at least mine didn't) until you do this next step: Choose Properties (I think in W7 it's "Printer Properties") and choose the "Ports" tab. Find the port you created (should be something like IP_192.168...) and choose "Configure Port"
8) Choose LPR instead of Raw, name it whatever you want (I named it the same on all windows computers, but I'm unsure if that matters)
9) Configure your router to use the same IP address every time, or you'll have to change the IP address manually every time you restart your router. That should be it. Like I said, this works on all devices I've tried, and there is no "Check out, check in" BS to deal with. I can print from multiple computers in no time flat. I'm sorry if I missed any steps, because I'm doing this all from memory a few days after actually doing the steps.
USB 2.0 Network Print Server with Ethernet Cable Reviews
USB 2.0 Network Print Server with Ethernet Cable . I ordered this product on 10/12/2011. The estimated shipping date was 10/13/2011 and estimated delivery date was 10/18/2011. The product was delivered on 10/14/2011 via USPS.The product works good except that it is not as advertised. i.e. The software included with the product is useless. After spending approximately 5 hours with the software, I uninstalled the software and configured the printserver like a network printer. I would have returned the product without DoocesWild's review. SO FUTURE BUYERS, PLEASE READ DoocesWild's REVIEW BEFORE INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE. The setup is explained in detail by DoocesWild. The hardware works (print jobs) satisfactorily from WindowsXP and Windows7 PCs. So don't bother with the included Software CD. It is not worth it. One thing I did differently in Windows 7 is to enter "LPT1" as Queue Name and check "LPR Byte Counting Enabled" check box in the Standard TCP/IP Port settings. The last 5 days the printserver is working. No complaints. I will buy another one soon.
USB 2.0 Network Print Server with Ethernet Cable Opinions
limited functionality . Worked flawlessly on Vista desktop through ethernet. Have yet to get it to work with our Macs or Win7 netbook... They see the print server, but test prints seem to get lost in the ether...

Cons Review
Way too much work. . Everything seems to work but no prints. I can print via a direct USB connection and I can even find the printer driver on the network and load the print driver. Everything seems to work but the last little step of actually getting a print. I expect I'll figure it out someday but after following all the instructions and going through the Windows Add a Printer seems like it should work. Also my printer is listed on the Windows Compatibility web site as Windows 7 compatible as well as in the product literature as compatible. This is rediculous.
