One of 2 best brands. I chose it over the other for the cheaper price. . The Xtreamer and the NMT are the 2 best hardware media players out there based on frequent firmware upgrades and manufacturer's participation in the support forums. NMT (Networked Media Tanked) is the technology from Syabas that many many OEM'ers license to make their players. Popcorn Hour, EGreat, Jasmine, QNAP, Istar, Elektron, Suno, Kaifa, SnaZio, Eminent, CMI, etc. all license NMT firmware and hardware to make their players. Popcorn Hour (PCH) is subsidiary company of Syabas so it gets the firmware releases quicker than others. PCH for this reason and its broad user base may be the best NMT device to go for. The other camp is really the Xtreamer. Functionally it's almost the same as the NMT devices except it doesn't have BitTorrent download capability built-in. It has NAS, FTP, HTTP, UPnP, SAMBA. It can stream content from your PC or Mac like any other streaming device including PS3, XBox, etc. It has Internet streams and Internet Radios.
As far as playing all kinds of media types, me-too doesn't cut it. 1080p materials all differ. Wait till you actually try high sample-rated stuff. The true test is something like lossless blu-ray rips. I used to own a Mediagate M2TV. That thing chokes all over the place on full sample-rated 1080p. The Xtreamer used to too. But with the latest firmware 2.0.2, not a problem anymore. That goes to show frequent firmware and manufacturers' dev team support are so important. In 2-3 months I have owned the Xtreamer, there've been 2 major releases. I'm just waiting for their full TrueHD and DTS-HD MA support. The Xtreamer is safe to get.

2009 Xtreamer Media Player & Network Streamer (OLD MODEL) Reviews
Many features and many bugs . I have mixed feelings about the device. Before making your purchasing decision make sure to check out the forums over at [...]. They do release firmware often but adding new features takes obvious priority. Let me list the shortcomings/bugs I experienced. 1. Wifi connection is a big gamble, it never reconnects when lost so reboot is needed. 2. SD content is upscaled poorly (blocky picture, washed out colors, and blurry edges), my 2 year old $50 Philips dvd player (which has divx/xvid support) does much better job at upscaling SD avi files. VOBs ripped from DVDs look worse than the DVDs themselves - no difference when both are played on the Philips player. I use HDMI connection at 1080i setting to my 50" plasma Panasonic TV and the difference in quality is visible easily. 3. HD content is really hit and miss - at least for me. MKVs I tried (which have DTS sound) have audio and video badly out of sync. 4. YouTube and other online sources are supported only in SD even when HD versions of the videos are available. 5. The unit hangs much more often than any other consumer electronic device I have used, especially when using network. And 6. Yes the fan IS loud - even when set to "low", the company even released a passive cooler/heatsink a few days ago. It is not listed at the official store though.
ALL of the above have been discussed at great lengths (some discussions go for dozens of pages) at the forums over the past 6 months since the initial release. There are many other issues listed there which I have not encountered. You can also find there some features which are advertised but not present.
All in all it seems like people who use it on wired network and primarily for HD content are quite happy.
I am giving it 3 stars because some HD videos I tried did play with beautiful quality.

2009 Xtreamer Media Player & Network Streamer (OLD MODEL) Opinions
Greatest Media Player/Streamer Ever Really! . So after several months of research I finally decided to make the plunge and purchase the Xtreamer. I have to tell you this was the best purchase I have made (audio/video wise) ever!
It comes in a deceivingly tiny box, but all accessories are easy to put together and get working correctly. The remote was a big thing for me, I have had other media storage devices in the past with remotes that that are about 1 inch by 2 inches with terrible results. The Xtreamer remote is 2 inches by about 5 inches, what a big difference, not I can remain seated while pressing buttons on the remote.
The instructions are easy to follow, items clearly marked to help follow instructions correctly, and total time from unwrapping the box to watching movie through WIFI from my server was about 20 minutes.
I chose to connect the Xtreamer through WIFI, however there is a hardwired option directly on the device (albeit 10/100, not gigabit). The WIFI option is through an 802.11N antenna connection so the range is massive that the Xtreamer will be able to connect to. Connection to your network is easy to do, even walking through authentication steps takes minimal time, and since I am running a Windows Home Server I can view all folders on my network with media in them!
The other contenders in this market (that I did research on anyway!) are Popcorn Hour, AppleTv, and ROKUHD. All have great specs and comparable features, I went with Xtreamer because of the 802.11N feature and price!

Beware of eye candy in Xtreamer's advertizements! . I've been somewhat disappointed when I got my Xtreamer. It's not that it's a bad device, but I was expecting to see that nice looking Movie Jukebox, live internet (youtube, podcasts, IPTV, etc) that we see everywhere in their video ads, but out of the box, Xtreamer does no more than any other basic media player. Sure it can play 1080p video, it does support MKV files, DTS, Dolby Digital etc, but that is it.
If you want the features their promotion is heavily based on, then you're on your own because these features are community based, that is, they are open-source 3rd party projects that you must install. You must scuba dive into Xtreamer's huge forum to find out, among outdated, inaccurate or erroneous users posts, relevant information on where/how to download that Jukebox and other third party apps, on how to install them and especially how to make them work properly. Also, you'll have to buy a 2.5" hard disk because these applications don't work well with USB memory sticks.
So, beware: what you see in their ads is not installed in standard and some computer skills are required. Linux skills would help too...
Be careful with their feature list because for example, one of the claimed features (Live365 support), one of the main reasons why I bought an Xtreamer, does not exist in reality. I quickly got my forum account blocked when I complained about that and I wrote that their promotion is misleading.
On a positive note, Xtreamer development are frequently releasing new firmware versions. Also, the user community around Xtreamer is large and a pool of programmers are giving from their free time to work on 3rd party applications such as the Movie Jukebox or Live. These young applications will certainly evolve and stabilise with time, releasing the full potential of this device, to the benefit of the user base and of Xtreamer company indeed...
As of now, this device is perfect for computer geeks who like to spend hours tweaking their computer stuff, but not for lambda users, unless basic functionalities only are required. Not sure I'd offer one to my father!
What I'm fearing now, is that if somebody from Xtreamer sees this post and recognizes me, I'll surely and definitely be banned from their support forum as they don't like feedback from unhappy users.

Loaded with features but still easy to use . I have owned the Xtreamer since the day it came out and have been nothing but impressed. I have connected external hard drives to it with just about any kind of media you can imagine -- ranging from 700Mb DVD-rips in DIVX format to full BD-rips in ISO format and the Xtreamer just played them fine. As a non-native English speaker, I really appreciate the extensive subtitle support it offers, both embedded in MKV files as well as through external SRT files. The company has been good about their firmware releases, which are frequent and easy to install. I have been playing around with some of the non-movie features such as internet TV and radio and they work well.
I only have two minor criticisms: (1) the remote control has a truly bizarre layout and the text explaining what each button does is so small it always takes me time to find the right button. I have started to use the iPhone "app" and it's more intuitive, and (2) I continue to experience a severe delay in connecting to the media drive that's hooked up to my wireless Belkin router. Once it's connected it works fine, but it can take up to 2 minutes before it can get to its content. I'm hoping that once I get the eTRAYz this month that will be over.
Overall a great product at a great price. Compared to other media solutions that involve Windows or Apple PC's or high-end boxes, the Xtreamer is much easier and much less costly.

XTreamer Review . This product is awesome, the things I like about this product,
#1) It was very easy to setup
#2) It plays virtually all formats. I have thrown at it many different file formats and has never complained
#3) I can share files in various PCs and it can play those files.
#4) I have a WNDR3700 Netgear wireless router and it automatically recognizes in UPnP and play media files.
#5) I can connect the external hard disk to my router and stream the media to the Xtreamer.
#6) It can connect to the internet and play youtube video
#7) The video never stutters when connected to the N Wireless, and I have played 1080P, 720P files wirelessly.
#8) The output sound is connected to a Yamaha receiver and then to Bose Speakers and sound is awesome.
things I don't like about this product
#1) The user interface can be improved
#2) The wireless antenna that I received for free does not work with Wireless G device. No matter what I tried, it does not work. I then bought a wireless N router, and it connects and works very well.
#3) If you loose the remote, the device cannot be operated. However you can program a universal remote.
Overall, I am very happy with this device. I do not need to burn any dvds or cds any more.

BEST STREAMER WITH BD and 1080/24p SUPPPORT . I have been looking for a while for a media network streamer that would allow to stream HD material from my home network or USB HDD supporting 1080/24p format. Xtreamer is the ultimate answer and it does this job perfectly. It is so easy to setup and operate like nothing I have ever seen. It is also VERY FAST. No delays or waiting for .iso files to be read and displayed. Playback starts almost instantly upon pressing select button. It supports pretty much every format on the market and its development team works hard to keep the firmware up to date. I am looking forward to check it's other capabilities, web browsing, access to on line channels. I highly recommend this product. Bought mine for $115 on eBay brand new in the sealed box including WiFi antenna which I actually do not use because I use wired Ethernet.
Greaty Product - needs works but they keep improving through driver updates . I recently purchased the Xtreamer after being frustrated with AppleTV and playing non-Apple content through XBMC. I was looking for a device that would play my HD movie content and this device does it quite well. If I had to do it again, I would get the big brother with 3 Tb drive bays due to some HD content doesn't travel fast enough over wireless networks (n) and it is desirable to place the HD content directly on its drive. Right now I have a 340 Gb drive in there and it filled up quickly with HD content. It has a USB port that can handle an external drive and that solved my problem. It handles standard definition fine over wireless. The AppleTV does pictures and music better, therefore, I only recommend this product for movie buffs.
Cons Review
Promises....Promises . I have owned this unit for well over 6 months. I wanted to wait and be patient before I reviewed it, hoping that promises and the long awaited 3.0 firmware upgrade would finally happen, well my patience is now exhausted. I didn't just invest in one Xtreamer, myself and friends bought three units as it supported the TV Live feature, streaming all the British TV and news networks, which was a major selling point to us. Within a few weeks of ownership these features disappeared, along with most of the channels featured in the 'live TV' feed.
I also was keen on their video jukebox which I waited months for, again to be disappointed. It took hours for me to add fan art to each title (I have a vast library). Only for it all to disappear a few weeks later and regardless of whether I set this up on the Computer interface or the machine itself, it would not successfully scrape my media files.
As there is no actual 'support' site, just the forum and chat room, it is virtually impossible to get answers. I have raised the above topics and more, along with many others in their forum, but no credible answers to date.
I should point out that just about everything on the Xtreamer interface has been created by third parties, ie dedicated owners who spend hours of their time, trying to do, what Xtreamer themselves should have done when they launched this thing. What makes it worse is that the actual Xtreamer website uses the various applications that it's users have created to sell their machine!! This creates an unfair 'sellable' image of a machine that is actually continually in beta testing.
To close, my biggest annoyance is the remote, unless you are standing three feet or less from the Xtreamer, it won't work. I was told this was a known problem and to use a Logitech or some other type of knowing remote. I have a Logitech and yes, it solved it. But if they know there's an issue, they should fix it. I noticed they are even selling Logitech remotes from their website now....so they themselves are basically admitting their remote doesn't work.
One reason I am finally writing this is that I am reading many unjustified negative reviews on Amazon, for example, the Logitech Google TV, while this unresponsive bit of plastic, receives generally good notices. To me this proves that many reviewers here on Amazon are actually affiliated with the actual items they are reviewing. Regardless of which I still value Amazon reviews in general and hope my honest few words will help someone wasting their dollars on empty promises.

Useless Customer Support . I have learned something very useful about Xtreamer. Their Customer Support is useless. If you don't buy their product is the only way to be sure that there are no problems. If you have a problem ... good luck.
After five days of "Dear Sir" I got nowhere and no valid answer.
