You asked for STRONGER WiFi and Extended Range and here it is. This is an ALFA 802.11g wireless USB adapter. Includes a 5dBi Rubber Duck Antenna. The adapter comes with an RP-SMA antenna connector so that you can add an external antenna to boost your wireless range and signal. Important Driver Installation:
If you get an error while Installing the Drivers press OK, then Exit. Then do the following:
Right-click on your CD Drive and select Explore
For Windows, double-Click on the application file in this folder (the file name atarts with "IS_AP_STA_RT2870......) then follow the installation instructions.
For Mac and Linux open their folder and then run the application.
Or you can got to the manufactures website, then click on "Support" and on the left side click on "Divers" and download.

The 7 dBi panel antenna works and is a convenient package. You can also use it on other devices with the RPSMA connector. It works nicely on my Buffalo router, though it doesn't fit through the router's plastic case without some modifications.
The 2000mW claim is not really true. This is a tricky thing to address. It might have a mode that can be unlocked that actually hits 2000mW. This would probably be a peak or burst power. Anyways, they probably couldn't sell it if it did 2000mW out of the box. Anyways, I measured it at 500mW peak. That's still pretty good actually.
I have to knock a star off as I suspect it doesn't always play nice with your USB bus. Part of this might be due to the amount of power it draws.
For the price, it's an interesting toy and definitely has better range than any laptop internal wireless card I've ever seen.

The Best USB Wireless Device PERIOD! .
The device is clean, genuine, reliable and it finds many, many AP's from very far away. Under Windows XP, driver installation is very easy. They provide a CD. It is automatic under Windows 7. In windows, you can choose to use the 'Ralink wireless lan utility' instead of Windows built in 'Wireless Zero' service. Trust me, use the utility. It will allow you to use this adapter to its fullest potential (well... as far as Windows is concerned). The software is intuitive and has lots of nice graphs and readings concerning AP's, your U/D speed, signal strength, etc.
Now, for BT users (if you don't know what the acronym stands for don't worry about it. You will be the one most likely to learn one day by indirect means...), I didn't try the stock driver in 4 but instead decided to recompile a patched version of the driver (check air****.ng for details) right away so I don't know if it will work right out of the box BUT IT WORKS. In fact, I've been sharing the same persons resources around here since then, now even, while writing this review.
Anyhow, the only reason why I gave this device four stars for 'Power Consumption' is because its a hog (which is not neccessarily a bad thing assuming I don't get cancer or something). To be more specific, I purchased the model that comes with the 7db antenna also. But when I try to use the antenna, my computer tells me the device is exceededing its USB power limits every time. So I just use the stock antenna instead. The solution to this problem is actually very simple. Just go and get a powered USB hub. Should be that simple. Other than this slight inconvience, this is one of the best, most useful, versitile, quality (and at a great cost) electronic devices I have ever owned.

works great . very powerful especially with the directional antenna...
im using it on an old top... didn't notice any USB power issues like people said...
before i installed the power drivers from the ALFA networks site it was heating up like a Beach...
but once installed it was working fine... but performance slightly decreased... you can tweak those settings in linux though its fairly simple...

Mobility at it's finest . This little wireless charm is great, I would recomment the standard 5dbi antenna
for the average user though.. You simply need to plug-in and load up the software
and your on the companies network in no time. MUST BUY..

:\ . Althought this product was shipped to me on time with everything I ordered, it just wasn't as good as my other one that accidentally broke. This product doesn't ever give me the full 2000mW which makes me question if they even sent me the right one. It usually stays around 900's which is not what I was expecting. I would still recommend this to people, as this is a great product with a good delivery timing. The only thing I want to say is don't buy this product if you are really expecting the full 2000mW or anything near it.
Great... If you know what you are doing... . I'm using this to pass usb to a linux VM on my Macbook Pro. Before I configured the settings on the VM I got the device working on my macbook just to see if it would work. I give the hardware a thumbs up, but the ralink os x software that is used to configure the connections is NOT up to par. If they had a solid UI I would give 5 stars. It works, but it's sloppy.

I suggest skipping ALFA's driver site and going directly to RALINK's site. This dongle uses the RL3070 chipset. It shows that they even have updated drivers for OS X Lion.
Once you get it working the device is great. Out of all the ALFA models this one seems to be the one that is the most versatile. The add-on directional antenna will prove to be very useful in pen testing and wifi location. Still looking forward to getting it to work with Backtrack.
