Ummm not quite... . Alright so obviously, one is not going to get the full 1 Gb/s due to overhead and O/S variances and all of that. But this unit here falls way short of the mark. Let's divide 1Gb into 8 to get a measurable byte value: 125. On a GOOD day, I'd average:- about 28 MB/s copying from Windows 7 to Windows 7
- about 34 MB/s copying from Windows XP to Windows XP
- about 49 MB/s copying from various Unix machines to one another and to my MacMany times the number would be far less, especially if I was copying a lot of smaller 3-4 MB files, like photos.I am not going to get 125MB/s under any circumstances, but something over 60 (and in the 70's to 80's) would be great.I replaced this unit with a Cisco (which was more expensive of course) and got around 70 MB/s in the Windows copy test, and close to 100 MB/s in the Unix tests. On the positive side for this unit, it looks nice and has indicators to let you know if you're running at 10, 100, or 1000 MB/s. On another bad note, one of the LEDs didn't work right.Overall, below average... unless you consider the low price... so I'm raising it a star from 2 to 3 for that reason.

Works fine for me! . I have three TRENDnet Gigabit switches active 24x7x365 in my house - two 5 port ones behind televisions/tivos/blu-rays and one 8 port one in my basement next to my Windows Home Server. They have all been reliable and hassle-free. Just plug stuff in and go. The reason I am here on this product page is that I'm looking to upgrade one of the 5 port switches to 8 ports... So, I like these so much I'm back for more...

Cons Review
Good features but does not last . I've been using hubs and switches at home for 20 years and I never had as much problems as with TrendNet. At this point I am very disappointed with TrendNet products and the company. I used to recommend their products to friends and colleagues, however, they break to often and their support is horrible. They provide 3 years warranty, so you think they will last that long, but the products are hardly lasting 1 year, and when you contact them, their online support is so slow, at the end they tell you to send it back insured and with signature, well, the whole thing costs $30, now you have to spend $10-$15 to ship it, wait for it to come back (you already lost 2-3 weeks without hub and most of your equipment disconnected) and then several months later breaks again! I gave up on them, they don't even care, and they know people will just buy a new one, so they don't have to replace or fix. Go for a different brand and save yourself the headache!
