The ECESATA254F Flush Mount 2-Port eSATA Express Card Adapter uses a unique slim 54mm form factor design that allows it to sit fully in a standard laptop Express Card/54 slot without sticking out. When installed, the ports sit flush with the sides of the laptop, creating a seamless add-on that can be left installed at all times, without fear that it or the card slot will be damaged due to snagging or impact. The eSATA Express Card adapter features 2 independent eSATA ports, and is compatible with the latest high capacity SATA drives (SATA I, SATA II) with support for data transfer speeds up to 3 Gbps. With support for Port Multiplier technology and hot-swap installation, the eSATA Express Card allows compatible multi-drive enclosures to be connected over a single eSATA cable, and devices can be connected and disconnected without having to reboot the system.

Multiple External eSATA Drive Solution . My HP dv7 Pavilion has an eSATA port, but unfortunately it doesn't support multiple drives in external enclosures, including RAID drives. As my storage needs increased, I really needed large, fast external drives. This great 2 Port Express Card from StarTech was an inexpensive and perfect solution. Now I have an external multiple drive enclosure and an external RAID enclosure and they are FAST (avg. 70mb/s). In addition I still use the HP eSATA port for a single drive dedicated to system backups. Marvelous solution!

StarTech.com 2 Port Flush Mount Express Card 54mm eSATA II Controller Adapter Card ECESATA254F Reviews
Convenient with a few tricks to work around . The controller card is flush and very convenient. There are several tricks to sucessfully plugging in the eSata cable without popping the card out by accident.
First things first:
This card can get hot. This is highly dependent on how much data is running through the card. I have not be able to do a long term editing project on this yet so I can't fully assess the heat yet.
Odd thing:
With my Dell XPS M1530, I noticed that the lower slot is easier to plug in (the one that lines up with the longer end) and the upper slot requires you to remove the card because the metal cover seems to be obstructing the cable from being plugged in properly.now for the trick:
you have to jiggle the cable side by side in slowly. It can take a while but once you're used to it, it'll take you something like 5 seconds. Now for the problem:
Be careful about pulling the card out suddenly or have it suddenly have parts of the pin disconnected. It can and will cause a kernel panic and give you the blue screen. It can also mess with your internet connect. I shut down my ethernet port completely and I needed to restart my computer to get it to work again. If you also happen to have problems with your computer not being able to start windows, pull out the controller card and wait until you're logged in and the computer is settled, then plug it back in and you should be ok.Good luck

StarTech.com 2 Port Flush Mount Express Card 54mm eSATA II Controller Adapter Card ECESATA254F Opinions
StarTech 2 port flush mount Express Card is great but be aware of using a native port first to load a driver!! . The flush mount feature of this express card is what sets it apart, a great feature to have that saves a lot of hassle with otherwise obstructions caused by a card that hangs out. Mine worked fine the first time with the express card's driver card on my HP laptop running Win7 Professional. It has continued to work for months now. BUT...be aware that not all external hard drives can work the first time through the express card to load a driver i.e. upon first time out of the box, as others have noted in comments about hard drives that need to be plugged into a computer's "native" port i.e.the built-in eSATA or USB port in order to load up a driver the first time....I was only able to load my external drive via my laptop's native built-in eSATA port, which took only seconds to do. Then it worked fine via the express card/eSATA port after the driver loaded and the external drive was recognized.

Stays in Without Duct Tape . Much better than the "older" version, which required duct tape to keep it in the slot. This new Flush Mount performs at least as well as their older version and it Stays In without the need for duct tape.
Note: I have only ever used one of the ports. So I cannot report on anything related to Raid, etc.

Cons Review
DESTROYED MY LAPTOP . I attempted to use this card with my Qosmio X505-Q890 laptop. The card inserted with no problems and drives installed. When I attached an external ESata Hard drive array sparks flew out of the port and my laptop shut off. My solid state drive data was corrupted, my motherboard had to be replaced in addition to the internal power cabling.
DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM IT!
If my laptop had not been under warranty it would have cost me HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS IN REPAIRS.
