This review is from : Microsoft Wireless G USB 2.0 Adapter (MN-710)
I set up my home network already. It Works Great !!! . Received my D-Link router from Amazon finally. I am using Microsoft USB wireless on my station in my room. It can detect my base station right the way after setup. No problem, full 54 Mbps all the time with excellent signal. D-Link and Microsoft works together with no problem. Five stars on this product.
Microsoft Wireless G USB 2.0 Adapter (MN-710) Reviews
Easy inexpensive solution for wireless networking . After just purchasing a similar OEM unit from a major online retailer, I'm a little upset because I would of saved $20 if I had known about this product. USB alternatives like this have made desktop and notebook cards obsolete. You no longer have to crack the case or install and configure new drivers ... it can't get any easier than this plug-and-play solution to setting up a wireless home or small office network.
Microsoft Wireless G USB 2.0 Adapter (MN-710) Opinions
A note for XP-RC2 users . Overall, not a bad little adapter. The reception was adequate--not great. It did no better than my old 802.11b adapter, which had started acting strange at times. But so far, it is adequate. Note that if you have anything electronic--like a cable/DSL modem, TV set, etc.--near your router that this can greatly impact reception as well. I actually set my DSL modem inside a black, homemade box lined (believe it or not) with tin foil, and got another whole bar on my reception for doing it. This is because my modem and router are side by side. Aluminum screen wire has been said to strain such signals as well. :-) As many people already know, microwaves and 2 ghz cell phones are a really bad idea around either the 802.11b or g networks. When I first installed the adapter, I got a warning message that there was a known issue with it and my version of windows. Not much in the way of details as of yet. So far, no problems, but we'll see. I'm running the RC2 version of the Windows XP service pack 2, which I presume is why I received this message. It directed me to MS's web site for an update, but none was there. It works, but this is only day 1. I will return if there are any further problems. Maybe MS will actually do something about the problem before then, if there really is one. They owe it to us customers to fix it before the official SP2 release.
Great! But rare.... . Ok,isaacjs2 review said that when installing to XP there is a warning message... This is because XP allready has that feature built into it (connecting to wireless networks and such) and this is only on SP2. This product i find to be vErY good! A+, but its so hard to find now. All the networking equiptment is being replaced by belkin and netgear, so get this while you can! Its a great offer!!!

Word of Advice... . This product works well if:1)you want to network two computers, each having one of these.2)you use the MS base-station router and use it as your broadband connection, and each client uses one of these.I can't vouch for any other devices/configurations.I did option 2 above, and WinXP on the clients. XP did most of the work to set up the network. Very good signal strength (diagonal upstairs to downstairs in a big house, max signal strength/speed). Like another reviewer, I inadvertantly discovered a neighbor's unprotected Linksys network when I started this thing up.SET UP: easyPRICE: not badPERFORMANCE: very good
(rewrite) very good reception but it has major issue . I decide to re-write the review to do a conclusionthis adaptor is the best one I ever had, from Linksys WPC11, WUSB11 2.6, WET11, Lucent (now Proxim) Orinoco, Netgear MA401, WG511, Belkin 5070 MS MN710 is the best among reception (can pick up wifi from West 31 Street when locate at West 37 Street), good throughput (can get up to 54M under heavy load even it has 2 bars of reception)very easy installation (note, put the CD in before initial installation, the software is OPTIONAL for xp, and DO NOT lose the CD,)however, it has a big problem, that the computer goes BSOD after returning from standby, and happens on both desktop and laptop, this is the reason I don't give 5 stars)the adaptor is using prism chip, which proved the best among consumer wireless marketto close the conclusion, buy this card if you have chance, MS is closing networking business, that means the adaptor may be no longer available
Work pretty well.. and price is not bad either . Had an opportunity to use this product as well as the linksys usb 802.11G adapter. The router in the test was the WRT54GS. The microsoft adapter was able to better maintain the link as well as had fewer disconnects. At the distance tested ( ~ 60 feet), the linksys product could NOT maintain a link long enough to transfer files that were several gigabytes in length. This was completely unacceptable. No such issues with the microsoft adapter. Both were tested on a winxp machine with WPA enabled. The sad thing is, the linksys counterpart costs nearly twice as much as this. As with all wireless, ymmv, so best to try several different adapters out. PS, aside from the obvious you have no connection prompt in windows, a program called ping plotter was used to ping the router every 5 seconds to determine packet loss. The linksys product had exceptionally high packet loss, where as the MS product had only a few in a 24 hr period..... Five stars were not given because even at close range, only ~18 mbps was attained, no where near the 'advertised' 54mbps. (This figure seems to coincide with what most magazines get with the 802.11g tests)
Solid connection . Works like a Champ. I plugged it into my wife's computer a year or more ago, and Igot rid of a really long wire. I had a different brand receiver before this one, and had to go back to the wire. This little adapter works like a Champ.
Good Wireless Adapter . My PC is hardwired to my DSL modem with a Microsoft Network Base Station (802.11b Network). It's pretty old, but hey it works and as long as it does everything is good. Anyway, the PC is in the basement and I bought this for my sons PC (located on the second floor). I have to say the reception is pretty good. My daughter also has a older Microsoft wireless adapter on her PC and when all three of us are online it's really not that slow.

All in all good buy!!

Cons Review
Don't buy it. Doesn't work horrible customer service . I bought this because it was cheap on sale and I repented big time. Spent almost 12 days configuring it but Microsoft Technical support could not configure it with my D-Link DI-624 Super G router. They were not able to setup encryption key and was not able to detect my wireless network. Microsoft transfers their tech. support calls to Far East country like India and most Level 1 support technicians don't know much beyond simple manual reading knowledge. Worst, their manager used to call me after midnight. Is that a time to call back??? At least they should check which time zone they are calling. And in middle of night asking my e-mail address where he can send solution?? After having their case open more than 10 days he still couldn't find my e-mail address in their database with my ticket. Worst technical support. If u want to be bothered in middle of night like 1 a.m. buy this one and enjoy harassment.
