The D-Link DKVM-8E Keyboard, Video, and Mouse (KVM) switch allows you to take control of eight different server PCs using just one keyboard, monitor, and mouse. It's easy to use, powerful, and scaleable. In addition, eight DKVM-8E switches (banks) can be stacked together to control up to 64 PCs.The DKVM-8E utilizes advanced microprocessor emulation to intelligently manage each KVM port. Excellent KVM minor issues . I'd been using these KVM switches to manage 16 servers across two racks for years and I have not replaced one yet. The main advantage of this is it is stackable or you can daisy-chain several of these to manage more than 8 servers. It works with most PS2 to USB cables or adapters so servers with only USB ports can still be connected and controlled using this KVM switch. Pressing a single button to toggle is frankly quite faster then looking up and searching for a right button corresponding to a port number which other KVM switches have. The only minor issue I experience very rarely is the loss of connection of mouse or keyboard after a power outage. It does not do it all the time but on those rare occassions, I have to unplug the console keyboard and mouse from the back of the primary kvm then plug them back in and that resolves the issue. I can do it hot without shutting down any server.

Working great for several years . I have had this in a home office for several years now and it works perfectly fine. I have 8 PCs and servers linked to it. We do software development on both servers and PCs and frequently switch around. Never had a problem, can easily and quickly switch from computer to computer by pressing the button to cycle through them. Not sure why another reviewer finds that to be a problem, all you do is press-press-press, etc., until you get to the one you want, goes very fast. Also, you can set the name of the computer to show for a few seconds on the screen as you switch around.
This can also be rack-mounted and several of them can be stacked to make a 16, 24, etc., stack, if you have that many PCs on one monitor/mouse.
I would say for heavy home office use, this has been a real workhorse and a real bargain. I am pleased with it.

Cons Review
D-Link stands for Down-Link . I don't expect the switch to solve the world's problems, but I do expect it to be more functional. First thing you learn, there is only one button to toggle between PCs, and that button only cycles one way (1 to 8). So if you only have 2 to 3 PCs connected, you can't cycle backwards (i.e. if you're on PC #3, you can only get to PC #1 by cycling thru 4->8->1). You'll definitely be using the HOT KEY combo to cycle up/down between PCs.
The OSD (On Screen Display) is straight out of DOS graphics circa 1985. Very primitive. The only thing you ever want to use the OSD is to reset/change you password.
An annoying problem I've experienced is that on some boots, the mouse is not recognized through the switch. I have checked my connections and rebooted. I have verified the mouse is OK by plugging it directly into a PC. Currently, the switch has stopped detecting the mouse device.
The only good thing about this switch is that it comes with 3 combo cables. So if you have only 2 to 3 PCs to hook up, you save yourself the hassle of buying combo cables separately.
Overall, I would not recommend the D-Link switch (at least not for the price they are asking). Don't believe the description about this switch. It's strictly bargain basement.
