Wireless Streaming! . Over the years there have been a lot of devices that try to stream your content to your TV. Most, if not all, require extra wires and hookups. I have a laptop and I usually find myself plugging an HDMI cable into it and then into my TV to watch my content or use it as a monitor. It always sat on the floor or was shoved into a shelving space to sit. I needed something where I could just leave my laptop somewhere and not have to bring it back and forth. This is exactly what I was looking for. Set up does require some time to tinker with but works really well overall. There is a usb port on the back that allows me to hook up a mouse and keyboard that I can leave near my TV whenever I need to show off a few thing on the big screen. I've noticed that a wired connection is better for streaming full 1080p content but 720p works just fine over wifi. I'm enjoying the product so far, no real big complaints aside from the set up process.

McTiVia Wireless PC or MAC to TV (up to 8 computers) Reviews
Consolidate all your boxes into 1 and save money! Hello Mctivia & Bye Bye to my cable box ++ . Mctivia could be indeed a good replacement for all these products combined: Apple TV, Boxee Or Roku box, cable box/Satellite TV, Dvd player, any Netflix provider......
I was initially looking for a box that allows me to stream wirelessly from my computer to my HDTV when I stumbled into this amazing device.
After having the Mctivia for few days, I can tell you that this product works really well- Below are my findings:
PROS :
*Compact & Sleek with clean lines you hardly notice it's there
*Has the ability to control any desktop within the house from the TV (with wireless keyboard and mouse). I can work on Spreadsheets or edit word documents without leaving my family room.
*Streams music from any source (Pandora or any MP3) directly to the TV.
*Plays Videos from any source (Hulu, Picassa and Netflix) to the TV not just Apple supported media
*Allows the playing of some casual games directly to the TV
*Any sporting Event that can be streamed to my PC can be displayed on the TV
*Has the ability to review and post to Facebook and Twitter from the TV or browse the internet from the comfort of the couch with the entire family.
*No need for line of site for remote PC Control
*Can control any type of PC not just MAC
*Friends can connect to share slideshows, pictures, videos and music in any format directly on the TV. No need to hover around the kitchen table
*Works as a wireless access point
CONS :
*It takes a while to install and setup (20 minutes)
*displays only 720p not 1080
*1 second lag difference between PC and Mctivia
* Maxes Out at 8 PCs or Macs
Bottom Line:
I looked at several products that allowed me to interface my home network to my entertainment system. I chose the Mctivia and am very happy with the results. The Mctivia allows me to access any of the PC within my household on my TV. Even when friends or family come over we are able to view pictures on their computer directly on my TV. This is an unbelievable product that I highly recommend!

McTiVia Wireless PC or MAC to TV (up to 8 computers) Opinions
This product performs as advertised . Read about this product in Mac World where it received rave reviews. Finally picked one up to connect my Mac to the HDTV in living room, all wireless and the results have been terrific. Streaming TV and movie content with great results, to remote Web browsing while lounging in my favorite chair. Hardware set-up was simple and the latest software for Loin was available on there Web sight for download, did not use supplied disk. Loaded software from Web right-a-way. Soft ware set-up is quite simple, while having the McTiVia server enabled, locate and choose it in Air Port, launch the software and connect. I'm very pleased with this product.

Great tool for the visually-impaired . Even on an iMac with a 24" screen, my visually-impaired husband finds it difficult to view Web video, the only way that he's been able to see some of his favorite news shows since we don't subscribe to cable these days.
Now he can see clips on our 32" HDTV, as well as series episodes not available via Netflix or Hulu, that are elsewhere on the Web.
Setup is easier when you know that the network config on the Web management page won't show the actual IP. You can see the IP on the TV screen.
Though the McTivia can host a wireless network, we get better speed using our own router (Airport Extreme), which is connected to the McTivia via cable. The iMac connects to its usual wireless network, and we're good to go.
With the latest version of Snow Leopard (10.6.8), before I upgraded to the latest version of Soundflower (the MccTivia app is packaged with an old version), the sound output from the TV occasionally lost itself. So if you're on a Mac and having sound problems, make sure you upgrade to the latest Soundflower.
We are only using for TV/movies, but there is definitely a lag between the PC and TV video streams, so I would plan on using a keyboard/mouse connected to the McTivia if you are doing gaming with it.

Works ok but does not do 1080p HD resolution. . Bought this after much time spent searching for a simple solution to play media content from my PC on my big screen. I've thought about buying extenders such as the VeeBeam, which can also be used to clone the computer's display onto the big screen. The VeeBeam also has a "play to" feature by which one could send/play a video to the TV while using the computer's display for other tasks. The VeeBeam can also do HD resolutions, if their HD model is used.
That being said, the McTivia is a great concept, and works quite well, but has two fatal flaws. One is that it can not do full 1080p HD. The website mentions 720p but the max resolution it can use is 1280 x 720, which for me is "HD lite". Not bad, and better than DVD quality, which may be fine for most people.
The other flaw is the lack of a "play to" feature as found in the VeeBeam. In my case I have one PC, that does duty as a family PC and as a media source to stream stuff to my TV. I use DLNA to stream videos to my TV and am able to use the PC for other things at the same time. So my kids could be watching a movie while I'm checking emails.
Where I had envisioned using the MctTivia was to send content to my 2nd TV which is not DLNA capable. I can't use a VeeBeam as it requires line of sight between transmitter and receiver and has very limited range (this is its fatal flaw, imo).
The McTivia does not require line of sight as it works via ethernet or wi-fi and so would have been ideal if it had the "play to" feature and also was 1080p capable. That the McTivia does not require line of sight is a fantastic feature that distinguishes it from the rest of the media extender crowd.
Awind Mctivia
Pros:
+ No line of sight required (allows flexibility)
Cons:
- Only does 720p not the full 1080p that the Vee Beam does.
- No "play to" feature (just cloning - whats on the PC monitor is on the TV - thus you can't use the
PC for anything else while watching a video for example))
- lag between PC and TV. In my case a couple of seconds.
VeeBeam
Pros:
+ Capable of 1080p
+ has play to feature (can surf, email, etc.on the PC monitor, while playing a video on the TV)
Cons:
- Requires line of sight between transmitter and receiver (limits placement of TV and PC) - biggest
drawback of this unit.
Awind, we want a Mctivia that can do 1080p HD and also a "play to" feature for maximum flexbility. Are you listening?

Stream all your Mac contents to TV . I was looking for a solution to stream directly from my Mac to HDTV and after reading the review in MacWorld magazine I decided to give it a try.
The unit is small and compact about the size of Apple TV, it connects directly to your TV. Install the mirror up software on your laptop and you are ready to go. You can have full access from your computer to TV by mirroring everything from your laptop...the main disadvantage is you can't use your computer for other functions while streaming. Unit works well over all with no lag and the quality of the picture is quite nice. I like the fact that you can use with multiple computers allowing me to connect through my desktop in my office if the laptop happened to be used by another family members.
Overall it was a good experience and I recommend the Mctivia if you are looking for a good and handy solution to stream. The unit comes with a USB connection allowing you to connect a wireless keyboard from your couch for full access of your laptop. You might want to check the Cideko keyboard if you are looking for one, it works well with the Mctivia and it is very compact.
Now I can watch all the Hulu contents directly to my TV thanks to Mctivia.

EVERYTHING on PC or MAC to TV!! . I have spent a bit of time researching for a product that would simply allow me to put my content from my computer to my TV. I decided to try the McTivia. This product is amazing. After I spent about 25 minutes setting up the McTivia, I was good to go. I initially set up my laptop on the McTivia. With no line of site being requited, my laptop was upstairs in my office and I could control it on my big screen HDTV downstairs, which I did with a wireless keyboard and mouse all in one. It worked flawlessly.
I tested everything. I showed pictures from my Ireland trip, played itunes, played internet radio, worked on an excel spreadsheet, played videos, posted on Facebook and I even watched TV shows from the internet and now I am thinking that I don't even need cable anymore- what a savings that will be.
To continue on, we added my husband's 2 computers, as well as my daughter's MAC. We have room for 4 more as it works with up to 8 computers!
The unit is small and sleek so it doesn't even take up any room.
I told my boss about this product, and now we have one in the office which is perfect for presentations.
In my research I read that this product won the MACWORLD Best of Show, I now see why. The McTivia is an amazing product that I highly recommend.

Great product for your Mac! . I have been using the Mctivia for a week now and I love it- It works great for streaming any content from your Mac or even PC. Instead of putting a review, I decided to include what people are claiming to use the Mctivia for- Enjoy:-I would use it to show business presentations on the big screen in our office.
-I'd stream my MBP to my TV, in fact I think I would have to buy a new TV just for this!
-Perfect for when I put DirecTv on hold after the football season. Gotta have my Daily Show and this would sure make it easier.
-I would love to use this for business - presentations and as a product I can recommend to clients.
I would also love to use it to add even more functionality to my TV than what I already have via Apple TV - such as running Hulu Plus, for starters.
-This would be perfect for my college friends and I to always be able to watch a movie on the big screen without having to hook up messy cords...we could hook it up in my dorm room or hook it up to the big tvs or projectors in the common room for some pool and a movie!
-i would stream a movie in the front room then pause it then watch the rest in the kitchen and the my bedroom at the same time!!!
-I could use this device to evolve my TV viewing habits so that I can pause my viewing on the kitchen LCD when I'm done with my dinner and re-start it in the living room HDTV, just like in the AT&T ads :)
-I would use this to stream hbo go since it is disabled by airplay
-This would be an awesome device to use when I visit my grandmother. I could bring my computer and show her all kinds of things; videos, pictures and even YOUTUBE!, all without wires.(wires + wheelchairs don't mix well)
-I would love to be able to use this with my display at school, for my students to be able to view a variety of programming much bigger than my notebook screen.
-I would it to get rid of my cable service and watch YouTube videos all day.
-I would use it to complement my Apple TV by having my Mac stream videos from Hulu and other TV networks' own websites.
-I work in a school. I 'd see if we can use it with the kids to spice up morning news in the TV studio.
-My friends and I love watching movies in our dorm room but we have so much stuff on the computer that we'd like to watch. Unfortunately, all of us crowding around the computer screen doesn't work too well so this would be an awesome gadget for us.
-I'd like to try XBMC or Plex on my old MacBook connected to the TV. This would certainly make it easier.
-It would be nice to go wireless so that my little doggy will not rip out the cable from my macbook time after time again.
-Since I do not have cable this would allow me to stream my mac to the tv. Looks like a really cool device.
-With this I would get my HD HomeRun and not be renewing my satellite tv contract. Who needs satellite tv with Netflix and over the air HD?
-I would mainly use it for presentations, because I have my iMac in my office and my TV in my living room. I would also use it for watching movies.
-I'd use it to have a giant version of Logic Pro that I could see from across the room ... so I could play guitar and mix audio at the same time!
-I would use it for streaming movies, videos and doing a quick email check. (yeah, sometimes I forget to take my iPad to the living room with me)
-Everything. And I mean everything. Games from Bookworm to Plants vs. Zombies to Quake Live. Web browsing. Reading online comics. A screensaver for my living room. Plex. (Or Boxee, or XBMC, I'd try 'em all.) iChat. Even my freelance development work. You name it.
-I would use this hook up for my MacBook Pro for gaming, if you have ever heard of OnLive. That is one thing I will be using it for, also I would use it so I can watch TV from my Mac on te TV using Xfinity, Netflix, and HBOGo. Lastly I would be using it for Facetime and iChat, my family lives in Chicago while the rest is in Florida, so if I get the McTivia and a exteranal camera we could Facetime or iChat with the Mac, but instead of my family crowding around a computer they could just sit on the couch.
-Simply: I'd stream whatever I can get on my iMac but can't on Apple TV - to my TV.
-I would use this, possibly in a futile attempt, to get my parents to use their 46" LCD as more than an X Factor viewer.
-As an avid Liverpool FC fan living on the east coast, not only do I have to wake up early on Saturdays and Sundays, sometimes around 7am to see my beloved reds take the pitch, but when the matches aren't on TV, I have to rely on dodgy streams that I can scrounge up on the internet. I would love to use the McTiVia to stream these streams to my nice HDTV so I can relax on the couch and cheer on my club in the wee hours of the morning.
-I would love to have this as a nice, clutter-free addition to my Media Center Master Plan(TM)
