Excellent! Slightly expensive. . It is beautiful and sturdy, it performs, it doesn't stick out. It works out of the box with Ubuntu (x64, 10.04). I needed to install a driver for Windows 7 (x64). The only downside is the price, which is a bit high.

Don't bother with those cheap $13 versions. This one rocks. . We users of slender laptops are jealous of the 2012 versions that have USB 3.0 support. So we mess with these skinny adapters to convert that nearly useless 54/34 ExpressCard slot into a functional USB 3.0 connection. I've personally tested several of these. So far this Star Tech #ECUSB35254F CARD looks like all the rest, BUT IT IS PACKAGED WELL IN A CARDBOARD CARTON, SO THAT IT DOES NOT GET DAMAGED BY ROUGH SHIPPER HANDLING; and, even more importantly, the BUILD QUALITY of the device itself seems better. The metal is stiffer and the ports stay in better alignment. The differences are very subtle. I did not use the included mini CD for drivers, but the device runs on the same Renasas 3.0 drivers as used by the other similar "AKE" models that seem to suffer a 50% defective rate. If you need two ports and have a 54 type slot, this is a good card to own. In general use you may not need the included extra-power cable; it connects to one of your USB 2.0 ports to add an additional half-amp max power to the Expresscard power, particularly if you use just one of the two ports. Also realize that the current spec of the Expresscard port can't handle the full 5.0 Gbps theoretical transfer rate of USB 3.0. You'll probably get on average about a third of that! Buy this model of the 54 size card. Save the headaches of testing and returning those cheap cards. Thanks to Amazon for making these great values possible. Fantastic shipping speed too!

worth the money . I am one of many (as I have discovered) owners of a Toshiba laptop with USB ports that come loose and become unusable. The fix for the problem is quite daunting and involves taking the laptop apart, as Toshiba doesn't regard the warranty as applying to this problem, inexplicably. Following many weeks of internet searching for help with the problem, I read a post that mentioned installing a USB Expresscard and using it to connect my mouse and printer. So I read the reviews and decided to take a chance on the StarTech model. I followed the easy installation instructions, and plugged in my mouse and printer in the two new USB ports on the Expresscard and am now happily working on the previously nearly useless Toshiba. As my laptop hardware has proven flimsy, I appreciate the sturdy little StarTech card. And it does fit flush and appears to be an integral part of the laptop now.
Cons Review
Not Worth the Premium . When looking for USB 3 ExpressCards I had a couple requirements:1) 54 so it didnt shift if bumped (I have a perfectly fine 34 but you move the laptop at all and it shifts...yes, I know there are plastic stabilizers...)2) Flush - my 34 has a huge portion of it that sticks outside of the laptop and there is no way it is goign in teh bag without removing the card.3) External power, since my purpose was to power 2 Western Digital My Passport 1TB drives (which my 34 does just fine when you use the A/C power adapter).4) Decent reviews.This unit appeard to have everything. When it arrived it does feel slightly heavier and appear slightly better built than others I have seen - but it was almost 3x the price. I learned very quickly however that it will not power 2 external drives - even with the secondary power cable (which on this model goes to an existing USB 2 port). It does work fine with only 1 drive.Since the device fails to deliver on its claims and is far more expensive than others in teh same class, I have to recommend avoiding it. I have contacted StarTech to determine if there is a seperate A/C powered adapter that I can use, which, if there is and it had been included and it does solve the problem, I would give this 4 stars (still to overly priced for 5)
