Great Product If You Know What You Want Please Read . Yes this adapter must be used with an external DC power adapter. This is also its greatest strength. It will allow you to send any voltage to your product at the other end of the ethernet line. I have used many DC voltages from 5 to 24 without any problems at all. Features a handy LED power indicator.The power connector will accept the plug from what is likely the world's most popular size, the size is 5.5/2.1mm DC plug. That size is the one that you get in nearly all externally powered computer products from wireless access points to routers. This POE adapter is a dirt cheap alternative for the proprietary Power Over Ethernet adapters that cost a fortune. Beware NO Power Supply Included . I order this product kind of quickly just scanning over the item and the images. The 1 images shows how the item is to be installed which show a power supply. But when i received the item...no power supply. can not rate the item on performance yet.

Very nice . I took the unit apart to make sure it was high-quality. It's a quality unit, with nice circuit board, resettable fuse on the power jack, good components, soldering and grounding/shielding. The power jack is the standard 5.5 od x 2.5 id mm power jack, no power connection problems here. This is a standard 802.3af mode B power sourcing equipment (PSE), with power on pins 4 and 5 on the POE side (clearly marked). This unit supports 10/100, no gigabit. Pins 2, 6, 7, and 8 are passed thru from the POE side to the LAN side. Does the job!

Cons Review
Question the Seller First . This item does not come with the power adapter to make it a real POE. Good luck asking the seller what type of adapter will work. He doesn't know either. So, why spend the money to buy something that nobody knows how to work it...
