Price : Too low to display
Great product . For half the price of similar cards this does everything it says it will. Setup and running within 10 mins.
This review is from : 54Mbps 802.11g Wireless Wifi Wi-fi LAN PCI Card Desktop/PC
Wi-Fi Card . I recently received my first E-Reader for Christmas. It's a Barnes & Noble Novel. For the record, it's a lousy product and no match for the Kindle. Well, what can I do? It's a Christmas present. Beyond having a glacier slow processor and wretched instructions it is almost useless without a wi-fi connection. A PC connection is possible but mostly useless. So, I decided to go ahead and buy a slow but cheap wi-fi card for my PC. Sadly, unlike a previous user, I could not make the thing work at all. I feel certain that the card is working but cannot establish contact. There are three different models with overlapping packaging and specs, so keep in mind that this one supports the g and b formats.
The problem here is a combination of worthless instructions and bad software. The software comes on a mini-CD which is fine except that you must wade into the folders and find the one for Windows wi-fi (the other is for some kind of sound-card, which gives you some idea of how fouled up the software is), try as I might I have not been able to make the card recognize my machine or make Microsoft XP's Network wizard link to it. Granted, I have no experience with wi-fi and a lot of this is baffling to me (SSID...WEP?), but I can't help thinking that a properly designed product would auto-install on the worlds leading OS without so much confusion and failure.
My opinion? Don't buy the products in this series. They're irresistibly cheap in price, I got mine for $11 even, with tax and shipping. But, what good is it if you can't make it work? No doubt a more experienced wi-fi guru could get it up and running and I will still tinker with it a bit, but for the first time wi-fi installer, absolutely forget this product! It's only $11 so I want bother returning it, but if I should still need wi-fi, I will insist on something with a proper manual and seasoned software.
