Good choice. . Aha this might be just something worth buying! This thing can really pick up a signal. Through metal at a range that surprises. Let's all share the internet! The N type wifi is draft, so an access point transmitting at 5 GHz will not help the range, as this unit won't even receive that. It receives the 2 GHz range, or N draft, (also the G band). Backwards compatible to G and B, you just may get better range with 5 GHz equipment, but it will cost you to find a long range N adapter operating at 5 GHz - not a 5Ghz access point though. So, what I am saying is that for your router's wireless, or if using a separate access point for wifi, it has to be b, g, or n draft, specifically 2GHz, not 5, which is also known as 802.11a. This probably can be tweaked in your wifi setup. If this sounds complicated, just settle for the common default G band, maybe the datastream is abit slower than n, but one thing I did test was the range - it's the same with either g or n using it. I live in a Hi Rise and it went from the 12th floor across and to the 10th with about a loss of half the signal. I also bought one and took it apart, too. Inside, the USB cable, which is a long long 5 meters, also terminates with another plug. So, if the cable twists and breaks, you can just buy another cable and open the unit, which is not glued, you just push two plastic clamps, and plug in the new cable and snap the lid on again. Comes with software AP functionality. Ralink chip. Plug and Play with Windows 7, no need for the CD, it will fire up on it's own just by plugging it in.
