Another amazing wireless product from ASUS . I recently got this wireless adapter to go with my new ASUS wireless router (also awesome). This adapter is replacing a top of the line Netgear adapter. Performance difference is staggering! Lower latency, higher bandwidth at the same distance. The software AP feature is neat I guess. There are free programs to accomplish the same, but I think this is the first time it has been integrated into the adapter software by the manufacturer. I imagine that the improved antenna design in this adapter would make it a solid candidate for being used as a software AP. The adapter software itself...I'm not a big fan. It is very pretty and functional and all. I'm just a bit more minimalistic. Personal preference, nothing wrong with the software. All in all, I'm very happy and ASUS is regaining my trust (a bout of bad motherboards turned me off a while back). The company's recent moves in sound cards (DX2) and wireless (this adapter and the N56U router) are making me consider trying more of their hardware again.

Reliable . I was reluctant on buying this at first because USB devices usually fall short when compared to PCIe cards, but not this one.I bought mine today to use with an ASUS RT-N56U router and I have had continous signals without any dropouts.I'm presently using this on a desktop housed inside an enclosure cabinet, dedicated solely on the 5 GHz band, and I have had a constant signal of 216 thru 246 mbps at a distance of 40 feet/and four walls.I have tinkered with this on my laptop too and received a constant signal of 300 mbps on the 2.4 GHz band. However, I already have a wireless card for it, and my desktop was the top priority. I noticed that I'm receiving a stronger signal using the USB extention cable, which is an added benefit.I also noticed that if the desktop PC is taken out of the cabinet and the USB stick is exposed to the room, the signal tops out at a consistent 300 mbps.

Very good router and helpful tech support . This router throws a solid and steady signal almost as far as the presently revered Apple Extreme. In fact, although I chose to keep the Apple, I'm not sure that they aren't equally good. And certainly equally stable. The software for the Asus allows many options and clearly defines the 2.4 and 5 bands, allowing different settings for each. I found the large black square with a series of bright blue lights a bit overdone in my dining room - which is also my office. But that's personal taste.I want to stress the quality of the signal but also the quality and helpfulness of the tech support people. You can actually phone and get a friendly knowledgeable person who will do their best to figure out a solution for you.As for the review above about bad motherboards, that may be a thing of the past. Over the past 5 years I've had two machines, both Asus motherboards, often running 24/7 without a single problem.Louise
Best WiFi adapter I've ever owned . I built my gaming rig, but I have to use WiFi to connect to internet. <gasp> Before, I was using a USB dongle that was capable of 2.4Ghz N channel. I had success with good download speeds, but all the other devices and nearby WiFi signals slowed down my connection speed. I upgraded to a 5ghz N router and bought this adapter. My connection speed has increased by 20-30%, and, more importantly, speed is consistently high (average 38Mbps d/l via speedtest.net). I know I'm an ASUS fanboy, but they consistently deliver quality products at affordable prices- this adapter is no different. The ASUS wifi utility was a little bit confusing to me. I don't broadcast my WiFi signal, so I had to figure out how to create a new network connection. The process was similar to Windows 7 Manage WiFi Connections, so setup was relatively easy. The confusing part is the default to setup WPS access. I don't know what WPS is, but the installation wizard wanted me to press the WPS button on my router and search for the dongle. I'm guessing this is for new routers that aren't already setup to broadcast, but I didn't do any research. I'm positive if you have setup issues, ASUS awesome tech support will guide you through the process. Thankfully, I was up and running in 10 minutes. This adapter looks cool too, but who cares? The built-in antennas get a great signal. N broadcast signal is the only way to go, and if you have the means to utilize the 5ghz channel - DO SO!Would buy this again.
