Most newer audio equipment (such as TVs, cable boxes, CD players and gaming consoles) only outputs audio signals through digital optical or digital coaxial connections. That limitation can prevent you from outputting sound to your stereo equipment which may only accept analog signals. Our DAC s the ideal solution to convert digital audio signals to analog audio. Once in analog format, the signal can then be distributed up to 150 feet away, surpassing the length limitations of digital audio. This not only provides added flexibility for equipment placement, but also saves money by eliminating the need to purchase digital repeaters. This plug-and-play solution requires no additional software or drivers and supports Windows 7. Up to three different devices can be connected at the same time using S/PDIF coaxial, TOSLINK optical, or USB input. This not only accommodates a variety of equipment types but also allows for multiple configurations based on the user’s custom setup. Connector 1: One USB B Female, One TOSLINK Female, and One RCA Female (S/PDIF) Connector 2: Two RCA Female and One 3.5mm Female Supports up to 24 bit 192 kHz Plug-and-Play for Windows XP, Vista, and 7; requires no additional software or drivers Adjustable headphone output is provided for personal listening Power supplied through either the USB connection or the external USB power adapter (included). Product dimensions: 1.25" high x 4.25" wide x 4" length

Great pick as long as you know what you're doing . Glad we found this!
I have my own Bose Cinemate speaker (1st gen), and a Philips LCD TV owned by my now husband back before we got married. The speakers were working fine with our cable box but wasn't able to get the audio output from our PS3 - after a crash course about audio stuff I figured the TV didn't have an analog audio output. I wasn't about to part with my Bose speakers, and after we decided to do online streaming via the PS3 and get rid of the cable because we're paying for hundreds of channels we don't really watch - we initially thought we needed an audio receiver. After extensive research, I found that an audio receiver isn't likely going to work with the Bose speakers, since technically it's a 2.1 channel system that can only take analog audio inputs (the 2nd gen of the Cinemate can take digital audio). So came the search for a digital-to-analog converter (DAC).
After seeing different types of DACs available from Amazon and studying the comments (and massive Google-ing), I decided to get this, since it can handle 3 types of input (for versatility), can handle higher audio signals (192kHz unlike others that just go up to 96kHz), plus it's Prime eligible.
We had initial problems installing this - I also got a coax RCA cable for the coax input in the DAC, and it didn't seem to work. For some reason it's not accepting the digital signal from the TV and transmitting it properly - I followed what other users said and turned off the Dolby Digital setting, but it seems that the TV is still messing up the signal in another way. We then decided to use the optical DAC input setting and hooked up an optical audio cable directly from the PS3 - and it worked like magic! Sound transmission with the DAC is perfect - didn't experience any degradation with the sound quality. Now we can finally enjoy richer sound compared to the tinny sound from the TV speakers.
As a new-timer on audio concepts I did not regret this product. It delivered the result I wanted, it was easy to use, and good value for its price. Just make sure that you know the products you are trying to connect to this DAC well, which I painstakingly did.
Now the only thing I have to watch out for is it's longevity... I have no doubt this product will last, but we'll see.

Cables To Go 28733 Digital To Analog Audio Converter (DAC) (Black) Reviews
Great product . I did a live chat with the company selling this unit. Told them what I was looking for, the tech with whom I spoke with said it was not what I was looking for. I have a mobile Dj system and use a laptop. I have an older analog mixer board, and the sound quality was poor with the laptop. This unit converts digital signals to analog, so it sounded like it was what I needed, so I went against what the tech told me and ordered it. It worked flawlessly, and did exactly what I thought it would do. Sounds terrific, and I wish I would have got one a long time ago! Price was right too.
