HWUN1A . I ordered this for use as backup to the built-in Airport in my MacPro. I ran into couple of problems with the unit after installing it: even though the signal was very strong, the unit got massive amount of collision errors causing the web pages to display very slow and sluggish. After a call to their support, I was referred to their Engineering support since Tech support can't help. After couple of email exchanges, I was sent a new driver for the unit. After installing this driver the collision errors went away but the web pages were still displayed very slow. The stats screen showed large number of retries. Engineering support suspected interference caused the problem and suggested to switch to another channel. After switching the wireless router to another channel, the retries went away and the unit works great since. Don't know why the Airport did not have this problem but since it now works great I'm happy with it.
I'd recommend this unit for anyone who needs a backup, or has a need to use an external antenna for extended range.

Hawking Wireless Antenna/Adapter . I'm totally satisfied with this product. It greatly extends the range and signal strength of wireless signals. It worked immediately upon installation, the directions for which were perfectly clear. This was in contrast to a competitor's unit I had purchased previously and returned.

Good product . I ordered this for my wife's iMac, which can't upgraded to 802.11n internal (airPort) wireless adaptor. I connected the HWUN1A and installed the supplied software and it worked right away. The only drawback was that when the machine was restarted at a later date it didn't connect to the network automatically. I think that I have fixed this by adding a profile for our home network in the software provided with the product.
Works as advertised . Had to move my Imac G5 into basement and airport was only receiving 30% signal from time machine (according to istumbler) which was located one floor up. Running Fios and was only getting about 5 kbps download speed with delays. Set up the antenna today and download speed almost at 20 kbps. It may be pricey but it works exactly as advertised. Thank you Hawking.
Pleased with the HWUN1A . My computer didn't have an airport card so I ordered this. It took about 2 minutes to get it working. The connection works well and I'm happy with the speeds. When my computer is in sleep mode it loses the connection. I think it's a problem with my settings. I've only had it connected for a couple of hours, so I'll figure it out.

Cons Review
Failed after 2 months . Finding a wireless adapter for a Mac that works well is not as easy as it might seem. I've been through a couple that simply didn't work well enough. I finally broke down and spent the money to get this Hawking Hi-gain adapter. I was feeling a little frustrated at having to spend nearly a hundred bucks for an adapter until I started using it for a few weeks and realized it's worth every penny. I get 95% signal strength with this adapter even with the wireless router on the other end of the house--every other adapter I used was 2-3 bars of signal strength maximum. This thing just works.

The interface leaves a little to be desired, and while it communicates a lot of information (available signals, relative strength, type of security, etc.) it doesn't seamlessly integrate into OSX 10.6 all that well. It's not, for example, able to integrate into your airport so that when you enable wireless it uses the Hawking high gain adapter by default. You must run the Hawking software constantly to maintain an internet connection.

Set-up is easy. Install a driver, plug in the adapter and you're done. I also like that the adapter matches Apple's white motif. I would like the adapter just as much regardless of color, but it's nice that it matches.

*****UPDATE 01-06-2010*****

This adapter failed after 2 months of use. It started dropping signals and then lost all connectivity. I tried reinstalling it several times but that did not solve the problem. I intend to try returning it for replacement.

Coupled with the integration with OSX 10.6 issue I was experiencing, I have lowered my rating of this device significantly. It's a shame there are not solid wireless adapters that are specifically designed for Macs.
