D-Link DWA-642 RangeBooster N Notebook Adapter
This review is from : D-Link DWA-642 RangeBooster N Notebook Adapter
Easy installation and a big improvement over the last adapter . Bought this to extend the range my notebook has for receiving 802.11g wireless signals. I pick up signals from all over now. Big improvement over the adapter the notebook came with. I have both XP and Vista running it with zero issues.

D-Link DWA-642 RangeBooster N Notebook Adapter Reviews
Works fine. . Bought this refurbished. I have an old tablet that doesn't have a wireless card. I figured if I bought something with wireless N abilities i might be able to use it to upgrade other devices after the tablet is long gone. Also, it was cheaper than most of the decent G cards I looked at. Nabbed the drivers off the D-Link website, haven't had any problems. Running Windows XP Tablet Edition SP3. I haven not been able to test wireless N speeds, as I have no acess to a wireless N router. However for what I'm using it for, it works great.

Works great on my old IBM T23 . Bought this for my old IBM T23 so I could have a netbook. Great range and speed. The driver even works well on my comp with it's own gui, for the price couldn't ask for more.

Great Wireless Adapter for the Money . After I replaced my old D-Link router with a gigabit router this also seemed like the way to go for a wireless card upgrade.
I wanted to see some network speed improvement within my Local Area Network and this just worked swell with my new gigabit router. This Wireless card at full range has speeds of 300Mbps which is way faster than your traditional 54Mbps wireless g notebook adapter.
It only ran $15 dollars which of course is a steal.

Rangebooster does is job well! . We have been using the Rangebooster for over a month now. I let my teenage son do the installation and he had it up and running in no time. It's worked great ever since. I was concerned about streaming movies across the Wifi and if any latency issues might crop up, but no issues there at all. It's doing exactly the job I hoped it would.
When it worked it was FINE . I have already used two of these models (DWA-642). Both of them died, 1st after approx 1.5 yr of intermittent usage (I do not use it all the time), the 2nd one bought from Amazon, just recently (perhaps less that 1 yr in usage). This chard BTW is based on the Atheros 5614 chip set.
When they work they worked excellently with my D-link DIR-655 router. Both connected right out of the box at 300 mbs using Windows zero software.
You know it's going to die or already died when you boot laptop in Windows XP and the Windows simply freezes.
I do not know why both card died. I still have an older D-link DWL-G650 turbo G (108 mbs) PCIMCIA card which still works flawlessly, only that it connects at 54 mbs with DIR-655.
Having experienced both cards (same model) died on me on the same machine, while older model D-link card still works, convinced me that this is a faulty model and I won't buy it anymore. I have excellent experience with D-Link wireless adapters and I only was dissatisfied with a D-Link Range Booster which I returned promptly a few days after purchase. Going to try the DWA-652, see if it last longer.

Cons Review
no way to make this work with XP... really don't try it . Looks like a perfectly good product, except it does not work with XP SP3... googled all the possible options... tried all the suggestions... it's just not supported, end of story, so I have a fourteen dollar hockey puck...
Discontinued by manufacturer . No support from manufacturer. This product was discontinued in 2009. See D-link's website for info before purchasing this network card. The DWA-652 from D-link is similar to this card and is currently supported.
Discontinued product no warranty or support . The Advertisement for this product made no mention at all that this product has been not only discontinued, but also has no warranty and no technical support services.
Regarding D-link (manufacturer), I think it is beyond unfair and boarderline criminal to dump products on the marketplace then revoke all support without warning and without any kind of expiration date on the product.
Regarding the seller, its pretty disreputable to sell such a product without full disclosure of this vital information.
