Useful in certain situations . The RCA HDP50 is a product that can be very useful in limited applications. It essentially uses your electrical wiring as an internet connection. The way it works is you plug one adapter into an electrical outlet near your cable modem, then you plug one end of an ethernet cable into the adapter and the other end into your cable modem. Then you plug the other adapter into an electrical outlet near the device you want internet access to, and then you plug one end of a second ethernet cable into that adapter and the other end into your device. NOTE: you will need to purchase 2 ethernet cables because they are NOT included. Examples of devices you might want internet access to are laptop or desktop computers, video game systems, streaming video devices, and internet-ready televisions.
The thing is, most of this is done via a wireless router these days. So the RCA HDP50 is fairly limited in its applications. There are a few instances where it is an excellent solution, though. For example, I have a wireless set-up in my home that works well for most parts of the house, however there are a couple of rooms that the wireless signal is very poor. That is because my house is large and there are brick walls between the wireless router and those rooms. This worked perfectly for my PS3 game system in one of those rooms!

Works great for my parents . My parents are older and are not real tech savvy. They have a router that I set up for their computer in the spare room and they dont even understand why they have that. Anyway, they just got a new TV that is internet ready but saved money not getting the wireless one. My challenge was to hook up the internet to the TV without drilling new holes and hopefully without being able to see wires. The RCA HDP50 was the solution. In less than 30 minutes, start to finish, I was able to get the whole thing set up and running. All without holes and without climbing through the attic mess. My parents still dont understand it all, but they love having the internet at their fingers on their TV.

Good device but kind of pricey . The main advantage of this device is that it allows you to connect a wired device to the Internet without having to run cables from your modem/router to the device. In effect, you convert a wired device to a wireless device. The setup was easy and pretty straight-forward.
What did I use this for? I was running a long cable across the room to connect my Blu-Ray player to the modem/router on the other side of the room. With this device, I'm able to stop using the long cable, which was unsightly and quite dangerous because we have little kids running around.

Two important points before you order . There are two important points to consider. The first is that you need the cords (networking cables) to connect this, both to the Internet and to the television or other video player. The second is that you also need two available wall outlets. The first point is a bit of an inconvenience and expense. The second can be a real hassle, especially if you've got a printer, computer, hard drive, monitor, surge protector, and so forth plugged in at the computer end and a television, DVD player, stereo, cable or satellite box, and so forth connected at the other end. But assuming you overcome both of those obstacles overcome and also have adequate Internet speed, this does what it's supposed to and is fairly easy to set up. For me, though, the free outlets were a real problem and required a good deal of work.
Very good option for streaming movies . The RCA HDP50 Powerlink is perfect for connecting your TV to the internet if you don't have wireless capability in your TV. While most of the wireless technology today can be easily delivered via router and to WIFI capable devices, there are certain areas in my house where the WIFI is not quite capable of "getting there", and this device solves that problem. Simple to use - you just plug it into an outlet by your router, connect the router to the device, you then repeat this same process by the device you want to connect.
Quick and easy . I didn't experience any issues with this unit. I just plugged it in and it worked right out of the box. It suggests not using it through a power strip or similar, but that was the only option for me and it still worked just fine. I was running the network to the other side of the house, so there was plenty of electrical wire to go through and it also had to go through the circuit breaker--something a friend of mine was skeptical would work.

Intermittent changes in signal strength on a long run . I found this product very easy to set up and to establish a connection. However, it appears based on variations in speed, that the signal strength must vacillate a lot for some reason. Perhaps there is a conflict with other wireless products in the house (although I haven't experienced this with a wireless router) or problems with my wiring (I live in an older home.) If you have a shorter run or less interference, this does seem like a cost-effective way to make a "wireless" connection between rooms. I had hoped to use this as an adjunct to my wireless router to reach a computer in my basement studio (my main system is on the 2nd floor), but I think I'll sell one of my units (I bought 2) and try a signal extender with my router instead.
Again, I would recommend this product for simpler setups, it just didn't work out well for my specific situation. Under other circumstances, I would probably give this a 4-star rating.

Ultra Fast Connection . At times it is real handy to use a wired connection. In the case of connecting HD TVs, Sling Media Slingbox PRO-HD SB300-100, and other media devices wireless connection can be both slow and a little unpredictable. Previously, I used Sling Media SlingLink Turbo Powerline Kit ( SL200-100 ) and it worked, but the speeds were mediocre at best. As seen in the video, I usually ranged in the 2-4mbs range - but with the RCA Powerlink I am able to attain speeds 12-18mbs!
