Slick little portable hub . I received the iHome IH-U550FB 4-Port USB 2.0 Hub as a gift. I immediately noticed the configuration and said this will work great with my MacBook Pro. Sure enough, it seems as though iHome had Mac users in mind.

The device has a swivel on the male USB plug. This allows you to utilize in a variety of positions and situations. For example, on my 17" MBP, you would use in the configuration as shown, when using the primary USB port on the right side of the laptop. However if you wish to use one of the ports on the left side, the swivel allow you to rotate 180 degrees and stay away from the power plug.

Another unique feature is that the center port (of the three on the side) is articulated. This would allow you to plug in a create more space in case a larger device (such as a 'monster' flash drive was occupying one of the adjacent ports. This feature, along with the 180 degree swivel was very well thought out.

The only complaint, on my device I was able to swivel the male USB connector 180 degrees and try it on the left and right sides of my MBP. However, I was unable to swivel it back. At that point, I could only move it approximately 90 degrees, which in my case would not allow use on the right side (primary) USB port on the MBP.

I noticed a small Phillips head screw, near the swivel, and visible in the photo. I loosened it slightly, and whatever was preventing the connector from moving, was freed. Now the plug rotates freely, without binding.

This hub looks to be the answer to connecting several devices, portable hard drives, iPhone/iPod, etc. It does this in a nice, compact, streamlined package. I would recommend, especially after testing on my MacBook Pro.

Downsides, if any... Well, the device is not "powered" if that makes a difference in your application. For me, I don't seem to have a problem with flash drives, the iPhone, etc. I did notice my Canon TX1 was not recognized, but I don't believe this to be a problem of the hub. (It was not recognized when plugged in to a direct port on the left side of the machine, either.)

iHome offers a limited lifetime warranty. There is a web site, and 877 number for technical support. It works with Mac OS X 10.4 or later, Windows XP and Vista. (I would be surprised if it doesn't work with Windows 7, as well.)

Great Fit For A USB Hub . I love this USB hub. It's adjustable and is GREAT if you are looking for the same thing I was when I purchased this; add USB ports to your laptop without adding bulky wires, doesn't require external power, and isn't hanging off your laptop. This hub connects to one of my USB ports and adds 4 more ports that are all along the palm rest of my laptop. The only thing to be aware of is that it "may" cover some peripheral inputs, so look on both sides of ALL your USB ports to see if something will be blocked. In my case, all my USB ports (and every other port for that matter) on my HP Envy 15 are on the right side. Additionally, all of my USB ports are in between the other ports, so the hub does cover my speaker output hole, but since this is my development laptop, I do not use it for audio purposes. That's why I rated it 5 stars. I'd recommend this to anyone who is picky about peripheral aesthetics.

Easy installation not so good documentation but no problems . Good performance, easy installation. Documentation is poor but it installs and function without a glitch. The performance is very good.

Great Small Network Router . If you're looking for a simple router that can handle your home network or small office needs, the SMC-EZNET-16SW makes it easy to connect up to 16 devices to your network without the need for additional network hardware. I personally use this as my main switch in my home network, providing me with 14 local connections to my router and another 7 connections in another room via an 8-port router. The SMC performs like some of the bigger named routers, but at a fraction of the cost. This is my second SMC router, the first one died after years of operation and then because of an electric storm that claimed quite a few components. I recommend power protection! Overall, I have tried other low-cost switches on my network, and I was quick to come back to SMC.

works fine for me . I bought mine back in April for my Tungsten T5 and I may have had to change a couple of settings, but once I got it going it has worked with almost no problems. Once in a while I have to redial in, but that may be my connection to my ISP. I use it daily on my treadmill in my basement, while it is plugged on a desk in my living room. I can use it outside on my porch and it works the same while it is stayed plugged into the same place. I took it to my mothers in Detroit and plugged it in, in the bedroom jack and used it in the living room. Plus my connection was even faster in Detroit than it was for me at home. I use it for email and do use the web application to access just a couple of sites, I don't think it works real well to surf the net, but maybe you have to get pages with mobile connections. At any rate it works fine for me, and I just ordered their USB Bluetooth adapter.

Zoom Wireless 56K Fax Modem (4300-00-68) Reviews
Product Works Great!! . I've used this product for about a year and it works great with very little problems. It puts out a strong signal and is easily conceled in the living room on top of a plant shelf. The only issue I have is that you don't know what the internet connection speed is since the bluetooth connection only displays the connection strength between the modem and the laptop. I highly recommend this product to those who don't have high speed internet in their area yet.

Cons Review

Cannot Recommend Zoom . Based on a few statements made about the Zoom 56k Bluetooth Modem I purchased one for my Palm Zire 72. The information that came with it, and the web site, say it is compatable with all PDAs. I tried everything I could to get it to work properly to no effect.

I gave up trying to get it to work with my PDA and decided I would buy the Zoom Bluetooth PCcard for my laptop and use it that way. I was positive that it would work well with a Windows OS.

That positivity was a mistake. I tried everything I could to make both Zoom products work on my Windows XP laptop to no effect.

I contacted Zoom by e-mail and in about 3 days received a response. The response didn't even apply to anything I told them. I was very detailed and specific in my letter but their response could only be interpreted as them not even reading my letter and instead just giving me a generic response.

I contacted them again - being the second time - and have yet to receive a response. That was about a week ago.

Needless to say, I took advantage of Amazon's return policy.

I don't know if there is a problem with the Zoom stuff or the way XP w/SP2 interacts with it but, Zoom's customer service made it painfully clear to me: stay away from Zoom products.

Works well requires a little more attention than I would ideally like . This product installed and set up fairly easily. It is easiest if you have a little knowledge about working with a home networking setup. The device works as advertised/described, but it can require some additional tweaking or interacting if you are using it with a scanner. You have to turn on the scanner and then open the NetShare Station utility and click on the option to "Connect" the device you just turned on. This does not apply to a printer, however. It recognizes my Lexmark laser with no prompting or action on my part. Just turn the printer on and the NetShare device makes the connection automatically. I would've given it 5 stars if it auto-recognized and connected my scanner without the need for any additional mouse clicks on my part. (Note: OS is Windows 7 on a Dell laptop with a Netgear wireless N router)

Good . It was easy to set up and the bundled software made for easy networking of attached devices.

Cons Review

More than a bit buggy . I picked this unit up not more than 4 days ago, and I'm not thrilled. NOT a plug-n-play device. Installation is fairly straight forward: ethernet connection to a wireless router, usb connections to your printers. You install the software on your PC, and it loads an application that scans for the Hub and any devices connected to it. You see what devices are available, and you have to select each one to make it "active" on that PC. If I only had one PC, this product would probably work fairly well -- but I have a laptop and a Mac. (I'll concede that there is no stated support for Mac, BUT if you have software like Bonjor installed, you do see the hub and devices and I have printed to my printer using this device.) That said, I have YET to get my laptop running XP to successfully use this hub. An OEM error message comes up at the last "selection" step, that gives me a list of three trouble-shooting steps (like "unplug and re-plug the devices") that *never* work. And lastly, when I do get either the desktop PC or Mac to print to the hub, the other machine looses its connection to the hub entirely -- prompting me to shut down the machine that held the "current" good connection, so as to free up the hub for the other computer. I'm hoping there is going to be some good support on the OEM web site for this device -- anyone owning this is going to need it.

Device and Service are both bad . I purchased this device in hopes of connecting several drives that I have spread out all over the place. Seemed one central location would be the best using a network server. Well, IOGEAR was a letdown in both the product and the customer no-service. I found out that they have a no return policy. Only repair or replace.

The GUIP204 is very buggy. Drives show up and then do not connect. Sometimes they connect and then immediately give an error that there is no drive. Other times, when trying to connect to a drive it says that the software needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled. A couple of times the drives completely vanished and never came back. I had to uninstall/reinstall software, only to get other bugs. I did that several times on Windows XP and Vista machines. So, it's not the OS. Another thing that is really pathetic about this device is the one user at a time functionality. If someone is connected to a drive you cannot connect until they release it. What do you do if the person locked on to it is not at their computer and you have no access? Sorry, but no way to connect. I don't know, maybe you would have to unplug or reboot the device. That's just too much headache. One reason I purchased this was for 4 computers to have access to our music library in 1 location. Also, to share any other items like photos and for backups.

If I could have given a zero I would have. But, in fairness I must say that at least the device connected, sometimes. So, 1 star for trying. I would say that this will keep me from ever buying another IOGEAR product. They lost a potential customer for life.

Save the headache and buy something like the Western Digital My Book World Edition. I ended up getting that and it works. Easy to use and multi-user access. It also has a connection for another drive if you would like more space. Buffalo also makes a very good product similar to the WD MyBook. Avoid the IOGEAR, please.

Good idea just not executed well . I completely agree with Robert's review as it is my experience as well.

CONNECTIVITY: I had hoped to be able to share my USB drive with an XP desktop, a Macbook, and a WDTV device. While it seemed easy to setup, I could only use one computer at a time... and never the WDTV device (granted the latter may be due to the WDTV device, not the IOGEAR hub). I also always had to ask the IOGEAR device to connect to each device upon start up (and usually the printer each time I wanted to print), so that I can see most of the devices in XP's Windows Explorer. Changing the polling setting didn't seem to make any difference to connectivity. Thumb drives and mp3/photo devices, for instance, show in the IOGEAR status but don't appear to be available for me to actually use.

BSOD: Occasionally, however, my XP desktop would get the 'blue screen of death' - which I haven't seen for years! REALLY?! (Follow-up: Further testing showed that connecting to my iPhone 3G consistently caused the BSOD.)

MAC: I didn't take the time to test the Macbook directly given that the XP desktop was my primary system and had already caused enough frustration.

Long story, short... this isn't the device for me, as I'm looking for plug-and-play and device sharing without the buggy behavior. It cost me about $40 at a local Fry's Electronics, so I'm not frustrated by the price, just the result. I'll continue to look for some higher-end USB sharing devices.

Amazing product . I recently found out about ethernet powerline adapters and I have to say this is the best thing after sliced bread. I had to connect my satellite receiver (which is in the living room/ 2nd floor) to my router which is on the first floor!!! There is no way I can run an ethernet cable from the receiver to the router, too long and way to messy.

The powerline adapter solved my problem, plug one device into the router, plug another device into the receiver and and my receiver can now access the internet. Make sure you buy TWO of these powerline adapters otherwise you can't get anything to work.

So, I gave this SMC PL a try, my big surprise, it works great, 4 times faster speed than Network and D-Link and very stable, plug and play. Goodbye, all the Netgear and D-Link PL adapters.

Blazing speed and easy setup without knowing anything about networking . All you need to do is plug these devices in and you will be up and running in seconds. Plug one end into the power plug or strip and the other end into your computers LAN/Ethernet port and you will be connected to the other end without any software configuration. If you are worried that your neighbors may have the same technology in their home, you can change the preset network name with the software in about 3 seconds.

Cons Review

Very Poor Product . I have gone through 4 of these in the last 3 years. I always carried a spare as they never lasted much more then 1 year before going bad. SMC has always replaced them for free until that last one when they said the product was discontinued and they would not even talk to me about it unless I paid them to talk to me. These things are junk! Stay away from them. By them from a reputable company like Netgear.

Not good with older house wiring . This product may be fine for those with new construction, but my house has some older wiring and I barely get connection to my router with this device. I did some research regarding this type of product (unfortunately after the fact) and found that this is a common problem. This is not stated anywhere in the marketing of this product, which is why I am giving this a low rating. I wouldn't have purchased it if I had known.

Great product short wires . The Ultra GammaView 2050 2-port switch makes my life a lot easier. I have a home computer and a work laptop sharing one mouse, one keyboard, one monitor, and one set of speakers, and this switch goes between them at the push of a button. Sometimes the switch is instant, sometimes it can take up to 10 or 15 seconds. Responsiveness, video quality, and sound quality are completely unaffected by the switch. The only drawback is that the wires that connect to each computer are not long enough; my speaker output on my laptop is not near the USB ports, and I have to use an audio extension wire to take advantage of the laptop's sound. Otherwise, a solid and compact product, well worth it!

Not much to really say other than if you have to replace one, the process couldn't be much easier: undo two screws and voila. (it's a good idea to make sure you have the IP settings, if possible, copied down because you'll lose those after replacement)

They're not exactly prone to failure, but it does happen. You're kidding right? . I would love to review this but Amazon sent me a pair of head phones in error. TWICE. I have returned both with RMA and have yet to get a refund for the canceled order. I found the card on eBay, got it in 2 days, it works fine. If you have an old Toshiba Satellite LT, this is plug-n-play once you get the correct driver from the Toshiba web site. It takes some thrashing about to find the driver, but keep at it and you will eventually locate it. This card is the answer to all those plug in PCM cards that work when the mood strikes. The card is five stars, -2 for Amazon's non delivery and missing in action refund.

Works in 1905 series Satellite . I installed this pci card in my old Toshiba 1905-S301 - worked 100% perfect. Download the driver from the Toshiba website. Its a 802.11"b" protocol not a "g", so you can only get a maximum of 11Mbs(not 54Mbs)transmission rate. I was OK with that.

Toshiba PA3212U-3MPCR Satellite 802.11b Wireless LAN Mini PCI Expansion Card . Purchased this product even after others indicated that this would NOT work on a A15-S129, but for $8.00, worth a try. This product just plain works.. Installed and did some simple configuring and was able to see more access points than ever, and my own wireless network was recieved with better reception, and less errors than before. All in all -- a great product.

glad this was still available . Just discovered my seldom used satellite could use this add-on. The order came timely and instructions in the package had me installing in less than 30 minutes. I am wirelessly typing this review using the product.
It was cheap, it works, it is in the box out of sight and cant be lost or missplaced---what's not to like?

Cons Review

Didn't work with my Toshiba laptop . It arrived promptly, I installed it. However it only scans for networks and will not connect to any network. I hope it's a software issue only.

External sound card . This sound card was exactly what I needed for my laptop computer which has problems with its internal speakers. We use this card and attach external speakers and it works fine.

Easy to use. Works Great! . Audio works great with my linux box. No hassles, software to download, etc. Would get again.

Cons Review

works in a pinch but only barely . device didnt come with the management software

Doesn't really give full compliment of audio, most of the music played through it sounds like its missing one side of the stereo track. When plugged into a real set of speakers, audio is drowned out by buzz, as if the grounding is faulty. Output jack has to be jiggled to find just the right "sweet spot" in order for any sound to come out at all.

Its incredibly cheap, but if you need a long term solution, get a real external soundcard
