This review is from : Asus 125M Broad Range Wireless Router (WL-520GC)
An older yet excellent model . I have being using this model since 2006. Although there have being many new technology updates since then, to me, what most important factors are still down to the range, trouble free usage, and the ease of setup. For these, this Asus WL-520GC performs extremely well.

Range: I am able to place the base unit on the first floor while got the decent signal at the third floor. The workable range seems even better than my friend's newer Asus N router.

Free from trouble: I have never had a need to restart the router as what I occasionally needed to do so on other brands' routers. To me, this is the only router that I feel 100% safe while I need to use it remotely.

Easy installation: I am an experienced PC user but is a network moron. By using the installation disc, I was able to do the setup with a breeze.

In the past few years, I totally bought about 8-10 of this model and gave them to my relatives. None of them had experienced any dissatisfaction or have ever had the need to upgrade. (Note: It has no N mode)

I highly recommend this model to anyone who need a simple, trouble free, and robust wireless router.
Asus 125M Broad Range Wireless Router (WL-520GC) Reviews
The Belkin killer . I was surprised not to see any reviews for this router on Amazon. Newegg is running an Asus love fest over this thing. First off this router was built with hacking. The stock firmware can be replaced with DDWRT fairly easily. Just google "Asus Wl-520gC DDWRT" to find the instructions. If you are looking to hook up your X-Box360 and don't want to get Microsoft's expensive X-Box wireless adapter this is what you are looking for. This router can run in bridged mode and connect to your existing wireless router to add the X-Box to your network. I use the briged mode for my network laser printer. I've got it stored away in a closet so my 2 year old doesn't get into it. I call this the Belkin killer because I've had 3 Belkin wireless routers die on me for various reasons. I bought them because they were cheap and I didn't want to get a Linksys at the time. This resolves both of those issues because it's cheap and it runs DDWRT just like the Linksys routers.
Asus 125M Broad Range Wireless Router (WL-520GC) Opinions
No problems . We've had this router for about a year and a half now, and it's worked great. I'm running custom firmware on it, namely DD-WRT v24-sp2 (10/10/09) micro, with no issues.
Does what I wanted . I bought this to replace an existing wireless router
because I wanted to install and use DD-WRT.I'm a bit slow, so it took me some time and
effort to get DD-WRT to work. But, the
instructions at dd-wrt.com are good. And,
now it's working great with both wired and
wireless connections.Be aware that you are limited to *micro* DD-WRT
with this router. I don't know what the
implications of that are, but if you need
the full capabilities of DD-WRT, get a
different router.
AWESOME . I've actually had some Linksys model and when it broke, I bought another Linksys. However, I had a very difficult time configuring that unit, and after a day, I gave up and returned the product to W Mart.

This is when I've returned to my favorite vendor, Amazon, and bought this product based on review and price.

When it arrived, it took me 5 minutes to set it up, and it's been running like a dream.
Never got unplugged or resetted or had issues in 7 months of it's life. Nothing needed to be done after power outages (about 3 of them in the duration)

Would definitely recommend.
Reliable Small-Home 54G Router . The ASUS WL-520gC is part of ASUS's range of single-antenna 54g routers. This one doesn't have a USB port. It is a basic but very reliable router for a small home. I have never had to yank the power cord out of this thing in order to get it working again. If you are geeky, it isn't difficult to set up, but the software on this thing was definitely NOT written by native English speakers. It takes a little know-how, so don't purchase this router expecting a Linksys-style experience. You will need to know some pretty technical things about your Internet connection (DHCP/PPPoE, etc.). That said, once you have this router set up, it is a dream!
Great for DD-WRT . Used this + DD-WRT micro set up as a wireless bridge to perform as an Xbox 360 wireless adapter. The nice thing is, you can use all 4 ethernet ports to provide a live connection to each xbox.

Cons Review
Poor documentation could not connect to internet . The setup was supposed to be very straightforward. Cable modem directly to this wireless router, and the laptops to connect wirelessly to the internet. It took multiple tries using the setup disc to set up the network, but I eventually got it going and the remote laptops were able to see the broadcasted network. That part was fairly easy. Connecting to the network was no problem, but there was never any internet connectivity. Plugging the computer directly into the router with a cable resulted in the same thing, no internet.

I fiddled with settings for an hour and got no love. I suspect it had something to do with the cable modem and the router using the same IP address, but I was unable to log into the router via the web interface to correct the problem. I couldn't access the web interface at all, even when disconnected from the cable modem.

The manual that comes with it at first seemed plentiful, but it turned out it was just 2 short pages to get the network set up, translated into 7 languages. No troubleshooting section. No information on how to access the web interface. My Linksys router was tons easier to set up than this, so I'm returning this dead weight and getting a Linksys.
Poor Wifi Performance with DD-WRT . I bought this for the express purpose of loading DD-WRT. I was hoping to get away with a super cheap solution for everything I was looking for, but as it turns out, this thing had one critical error that made it unusable for my network. Sparing you all the details, the best wireless data rate I could get with this router was 13 Mbps. At the time of testing, I could consistently pull down between 23 and 30 Mbps over a wired connection. I could have lived with that if it were not for the fact that when you attach another one of these routers to the first (for extending your wireless signal to the other half of your house or for setting up a secure router that you don't allow guests onto), wireless performance drops to about .3 Mbps. That's absolutely ridiculous. I spent two weeks troubleshooting this problem on the DD-WRT forums without a resolution, so I decided to return it.
WAIT! . This router is advertised as providing a 300% more coverage and a Bandwidth control manager... Reality Check: it doesnt.

Im sitting right next to it and sometimes I get 5, 4 or 3 bars on my wifi streght signal. On average I'd say its 4, but im 10 ft away from it.

The setup was a real mess. Took me 2 hours to set it up because my laptop was not configuring the WIFI adapter properly so I went and used the ethernet adapter.

This could be useful for individual use. I need one to control the downloading which is why a need another model. Actually its the GU model. Funny, the GU model provides the same characteristics as this unit. Total FAIL on the info.
