The NETGEAR ProSafe Smart Wireless Controller is a full-featured wireless controller that centrally manages 16 access points, delivering integrated wireless mobility, security and converged services for both wired and wireless users. Supporting up to 256 users per ProSafe Smart Wireless Controller, the WFS709TP has built in PoE support on all eight 10/100 interfaces. With a Gigabit Ethernet port typically used to connect the Wireless Controller to the network backbone, WFS709TP supports advanced security features such as 802.1x, EAP-PEAP, EAP-TLS, EAP-TTLS, 802.11i, MAC address, SSID and location-based authentication.

A must for multiple AP management . In my last job I managed 15 AP's manually and it was a nightmare. A wfs709tp makes management a breeze once you have the unit set up. We are using 2 wireless networks, one private and one guest.
This is the kind of appliance I like. You set it up and pretty much forget it. It does all the mgmt work in the background. You manage the wfs709tp and wfs709tp manages all the APs. I have 10 APs, and dedicate 1 of them to monitor the wireless network. The monitor AP lets the system adjust the power output of your other APs to cover just the area you want to cover and alerts you to rouge or interfering networks.
If you like to peruse statistics, the wfs709tp will provide you with reams of them. The web management interfaces is fairly intuitive, allow you dig through the monitoring data and easily do configuration tweaks.
My only concern is that there's been no firmware updates since 1/4/2010. While the system is stone reliable, you'd think that they might put out a feature update once in a while.
The alternatives to the wfs709tp cost thousands more and are probably even more of a handful to configure and monitor, so this unit is a heck of a deal.

This is the device for all those small entrepreneurs like me. Why it meets my approval is that it offers me monitoring solutions, which is possible due to the light access points. Monitoring solutions is the greatest advantage for me, personally.
My WFS709TP has 8 Fast Ethernet ports, which means it can support 16 light access points. I should say that I benefit the most because of the PoE-enabled ports. The wireless gateway switch enables centralized administration, so no more hassles.
I think the console access must be given an USB connection because the serial ports have already become obsolete, isn't it?
Here is a word of caution though! I had to bring in some highly knowledgeable technicians to install my device because the manual did not throw light on most of the issues. So please don't rely on the manual!
