The AWUS036EW Wireless USB adapter provides users to launch IEEE 802.11g wireless network at 54 Mbps (Can also Support turbo mode for 72 Mbps data rate) in the 2.4GHz frequency, which is also compatible with IEEE 802.11b wireless devices at 11Mbps. You can configure this adapter with ad-hoc mode to connect to other 2.4GHz wireless computers or with Infrastructure mode to connect to a wireless AP or router for accessing to Internet. This adapter includes a convenient Utility for scanning available networks and saving preferred networks that users usually connected with. Security encryption can also be configured by this utility.

User Review of Alfa AWUS036EW . This WiFi network adapter dongle seems to work quite well. It receives marginal WiFi signals at approximately double the signal strength of my laptop's standard internal antenna. I bought this because I needed to receive a wireless signal in a location where I could "see" the access point, but couldn't connect to it. This little antenna booster got me connected with no problems. On initial installation, the software driver loaded directly from MicroSoft without using the supplied CD disc.--That was a bonus. The only down-side to this adaptor is that on my laptop, the USB ports are located very close together. The "wide body" form factor of the unit blocks access to the adjacent ports when plugged-in directly. I solved that problem by using a short USB extension cable...which I had on-hand but was NOT included. Overall a good product with performance as promised, but I wish the form factor wasn't so "wide."

worked for me . It worked for me. My router was a floor above and 65' away. Tried other wireless adapters and they didnt work.This one was no problem.

Very Pleased . I ordered this product after the Network Adapter that came with my desktop computer was lost after moving to a new house. I spent quite some time looking for an adapter that had good quality and was at an acceptable price. This product was actually recommended to me by a customer service representative that works for the company which my computer came from (Cyber Power PC) I figured that he knew what he was talking about so I ordered this one. It came here quickly, it was very cool looking and even though I did not need the USB portion because I have a built in adapter I just needed the antenna, I was able to take the antenna and screw it onto the back of my computer. I did not even need to use the mini-disk that it came with. The mini-disk will work on even a computer that is meant to receive the normal size disk (sorry for lack of terminology), all you have to do is place the mini-disk in the center of the CD-Rom. The price was great as well. I recommend this product as well as this seller.

Works ok . This product is pretty simple and easy to use, not to mention cheap. One downside is the range isn't really the best. One other thing, the plastic casing around it is pretty big, so much so that if you have another USB port next to it or under the one this is plugged into, you will not likely be able to plug in another USB device while that one is plugged in.
Does what I want . Does what it's supposed to, fairly stable connection, range is shorter than stated in description but works for my needs.

Mac users take note- do not buy this item . This is the second time I have to return an item to Amazon in a month, I have been a good customer for a long time but now I really have a second thought before making my next order.
The reason? The description claims to be Mac compatible, but it's not. I installed the driver from the provided CD for my Mac mini (MacOS 10.6.6) It simply does not work.
I tried various possibilities to no avail. Come to think of it, what do you expect from a Windows centric manufactures? You can't get through their thick skulls that there are other OSes besides Windows.
What a piece of junk did nothing but wasting my time. Don't waste your time if you are a Mac user.

not very useful device . the customer servie is very prompt and helpful, but the device is poor when it comes to catching the wifi signal.
