Solid gear good value . Unlike most computer gear, switches are easy: you plug in the ethernet cables and then plug in the power and you're up and running. This is a physically solid piece of equipment and it's wonderfully compact. (Amazon lists the wrong dimensions -- it's about 8.5 x 7 x 1.75, which is unusually small for a 16-port switch. You can verify the correct dimensions at the 3com web site). It's also a great price for 16 gigabit ports. I've had it for only a few weeks, so I can't speak about durability.
Of course this switch is overkill for most households. We are fortunate enough to have wired ethernet everywhere thanks to a renovation; we actually use all 16 ports. We also stream multimedia within the house thanks to MythTV, so the extra bandwidth is helpful.
If you have need of a 16-port gigabit switch, this should be on your short list.
