A winner! . I'm a bit of a tech aficionado. If there is a bit of tech out there that will make life easier, I'll probably end up with it. Maybe not right away, but eventually I'll have to get my hands on it. See how it works. See if it helps.

All that to say: I really appreciate it when a piece of tech just works right out of the box, with little effort on my part. Makes life easier, and no headaches.

This Amped Smart Access Point is one such animal. Lotta help, with little effort.

Our wireless router is in the basement, two floors from where I typically do my writing. The wireless coverage is good enough, but there have definitely been instances where I wished for better coverage on the second floor. Getting a wireless access point was something I had thought about in the past, but hadn't yet gotten around to. Then I saw this item in the Vine catalog. Had to try it out.

In the room that I write in, I also had a wired switch to connect other appliances to the Internet. So when I realized this AP300 had four wired connection ports in addition to the wireless, I knew exactly what I'd do with it. I just swapped it for the wired switch.

And it was literally no more than that. I unplugged the switch and all the Ethernet cables, plugged in the Amped machine and those same cables, and wha-laa, everything worked as before, and my wireless service was better. The only thing I had to consult the manual for was the wireless password. That's it!

As an additional test, I checked the wireless coverage on our outside patio. I hoped at some point to be able to surf with my laptop or e-reader while lounging outside. This access point gives me about a bar or two better reception outdoors than the wireless router alone. (I never checked before. I just assumed since I live in a brick house that it wouldn't work. It would, but now it will work for a much wider area.)

So, overall, life made easier, and with little hassle. The AP300 is a big winner in my book!
Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-300N Smart Access Point (AP300) Reviews
Increased my wireless signal . This access point was very easy to set up using the included instructions. In no time I was seeing a faster connection. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a stronger wireless signal.
Amped Wireless High Power Wireless-300N Smart Access Point (AP300) Opinions
Easy to set up Access Point . I just received the Amped Wireless Access Point and within 5 minutes was up an running on my iPas and a Windows 7 PC. I had a problem with my Windows XP machine but after speaking with customer service (which answered my phone call within 2 minutes-no wait time) was shown how to configure the device to include XP as well. All three now work very well and the signal strength at the far end of my house is much stronger than my previous Trendnet Access Point.
Obvioulsy, it is early but the initial impression is very good.
Simple simple simple...... AND VERY VERY FAST!!!! . I received this product as part of Amazon Vine Program and I must say it does EXACTLY what it says it will do.

Here is what I LOVE about the amped wireless Smart Access Point:

1. It took me exactly 10 minutes to plug it into my router and get it to work. Really.... It took me only 10 minutes. I had to remind myself not to over think this part as the instructions were very clear, concise, simple and easy to understand. I think a grandmother could do this!

2. My web pages now load FAST. Really fast. Super fast. I do a lot of work on the Internet and the my page loading speed is definitely at LEAST 3x faster, if not more. Really!!

3. The range of accessibility has increased. Now, all of the other computers in my house have faster speeds and they load equally as fast as the computers in the same room as the Smart Access Point. Nice.

4. Range extension has increased. I use my laptop in the Garage which is about 300 feet away from the Smart Access Point, and it works as fast as all the other computers in my home.

So, if you want faster page loading and want to also add long range wireless to your already existing network, this product delivers. I am impressed. Really impressed.
Excellent Access Point-- Great Out of Box Experience . I opened the box, I attached it to my modem/router and it worked!

Frontier installed a new modem/wireless router (which was a waste of resources because my five year old modem had worked just fine, the problem was with their service.) Anyway it made my current wireless router redundant-- in fact one tech insisted I disconnect it which I did because I was being ultra-cooperative in an effort to get something done. This however resulted in a loss of signal to one office in a distant part of the building.

The access point restored signal strength to the computer in the distant office and I can now in fact sit in the parking lot and pick up an adequate signal. The lot is approximately 105 feet deep and I have a wireless signal on all of it through wood, plaster, brick and all.

Recommended.
Great Product . I had no trouble connecting and setting the unit up even with changing the IP address to match our internal network. This unit has and is performing exactly as I anticipated.
Finally a "N" Access Point that lives up to its review . After trying different Netgear N AP's out there, this one seems quite stable and has a great range. The installation was quite simple to follow and its features are rich too. Only wished it didn't take so many seconds to reboot each time a configuration change was made. Other than that, this router is more reliable so far, will update more after a few more days.
Works as advertised - good range . I bought this along with the SR300 Amped Repeater (which is also reviewed - great product). The High Power Access Point is an excellent product with great features as advertised. Easiest networking product that i've ever had to setup. Even easier than the repeater which I must say was pretty easy.

Just make sure you are using a 4 wire ethernet cable if you plan on extending the AP from your router using another ethernet cable other than the one provided. It works better with NON POE cables according to their techs which were very helpful.

Great product. A+
Powerful Access Point with a lot of features . Pros: Great range, easy installation, 5 extra ports, looks good
Cons: None

Tip: Use a non-POE cable (4 wires in the ethernet cable, not 8 wires - you can check this on the tip) if you are extending the AP300 from your router or switch using a long cable. the AP300 doesn't play nice with other PoE cables since it has its own PoE capabilities. This only applies to the one port that connects to your router. The other 4 ports supports passive PoE and can be used to power additional AP300 access points.

Cons Review
"High Power" AP300 is really LOW power . I just noticed my tag line. That's a PIPE organ fan. The king of instruments! Now the review:
I have configured at least a dozen different wired and wireless switches/WAPs from multiple vendors over the years. This is far and away the hardest item to configure I have ever come across. Any harder and it would be impossible. It has NO virtual port routing capability. If the upstream device does not have it, and you need it, you are done. I have about 14 port routing entries. Thank goodness the Comcast Gateway will do that many. So if you are needing this function and don't have it elsewhere, do not order this. You will have to return it. That, right away, is a BIG minus for the unit. Then they claim it is "high power". Well this high power unit loses one bar of signal strength going through ONE wall. This is horrible! The normal power unit it replaced gives full bars on the same computer while both WAP and laptop are sitting in the same places. So don't count on having a huge coverage area with this one. It seems that it just can't do it. I have not tried any farther away. I would expect more of the same signal weakness.I have tried every way, many times, to set the IP address of the unit. (Solved, see below) It refuses. I set it and "Apply". All it does is scroll to the top of the same screen and that is the only effect. Not sure what they were thinking here. You have to manually disable the DHCP capabilities (which was already off by default since the Comcast Gateway provides this service) to set the IP address. Then you type it in and... nothing happens. For some reason I cannot understand and Comcast cannot explain, when I put this unit online, the IP address for me changed. I have a static Comcast IP address. It comes with a routable and gateway address pair. The routable address used to end in .197 and everyone was happy. Now, it ends in .198 and I had to change my DNS entry for my web hosting and email hosting (both done here at home). That made me be down for about a day while the new address propagated. That's the only reason I am keeping it. I don't want to be down another day or so to switch it back. Also, I could, previously, use my URL for my iPhone and computers to wrap back to myself to check email from home. Now I have to use the IP address of the server. That means that I cannot check email on my iPhone at home. I used to be able to do this. OK, nitpicky, but another restriction I did not have before. I have a replacement coming! This may still go back. It is a pain in the brain to configure and causes other problems that I can only barely live with.I would advise avoiding this unit. The price is good (on sale) and it is tiny but the problem with IP address setting, missing web/email server access locally, somewhat low output power and missing port routing function lower the utility of this unit to almost boat anchor status. Trouble is, it is too light for that purpose, too. Leaves little for it to do!Later the same day, a little better news...I just read a comparison of the speed of several .11n routers. The best of the review was only about 1/2 of what this AP300 does. I got about 97MBps (that's Bytes/second) through it. That's a very good wireless speed through one wall with 6 other WAPs in sight of the .11n capable laptop. It was midnight-ish so I was only fighting beaconing, probably. So to their favor, that's a very good speed with less than max signal strength. This was from a 1GB Synology NAS through two 1GB switches (3 wired segments) then onto the AP300 to the Vista laptop in the next room. So a somewhat weak signal but Vista is telling me it is connected at full speed of 300Mbps. Still, it is a dorky configuration and lacking capabilities. Still 2 stars.Later the next week...
I just found out how to get around another problem that has been kicking me for a week. There is one setting that I wanted to make, the IP address, to get this unit out of the DHCP address range and into its own, reserved address. I tried for a week to make the change. I wrote tech support. They mentioned power cycling and flashing the firmware. No joy. I finally got the word that one cannot use Firefox to make this one setting. All the rest are OK and there is nothing special about this one text entry box except that you must switch to IE (maybe others but no Firefox) to make it. I switched over to IE and have finally finished configuring the unit (remember, no port forwarding) the best I can. Still 2 stars but 1.5 might be better. Still the dorkiest WAP I have ever worked with. Some who claim it is easy probably did not have any configuration requirements. My setup is more complex than many (most?) and I needed to work with the unit, starting the week long hassles. It is easy until you have to change something then... watch out. It won't be going back, I guess. But it will leave a bad taste for quite some time. Mike
