Now you can have a powerful, high-speed network on a small scale. NETGEAR's GS108 Gigabit Ethernet Switch lets you build a system that provides a full, dedicated 1000, 100, or 10 Mbps connection so you can move very large files across your network instantly. The GS108 also lets you painlessly integrate 10, 100, and 1000 Mbps devices. This potent switch is packed with ease-of-use features to simplify your workday experience. Its compact design fits neatly into small work spaces and, since it's self-cooling without a fan, it runs silently and unobtrusively.

Netgear GS108P 8 gig port with 4 POE ports switch .
Currently powering an Avaya 9600 VOIP phone and a Cisco 1242(ABG) WAP.
I will test with a Cisco 7900 colour phone and another Cisco WAP(1311) shortly.
Also looking into a POE IP Camera(will remove one WAP) in teh next few months.
It has more POE power(50W)than the FS108P(about 32W).
Brochure shows that it will trunk but no Admin access(GUI or SSH) so not sure how it exactly works.
Not sure why these units are so hard to find (April 2010). Purchased on Amazon.com. I checked today(16 April 2010) and it is no longer available. Also search other locations and could not find it easily.

Solid networking . The switch is great for any POE device. I use mine to power up a VoIP phone and it does the job as expected.
Works Great . Powers my POE cameras. Solid construction. Up in running in less than 1 min. It's a winner. Only con is the price.
Netgear ProSafe GS108P Ethernet Switch Reviews
Awesome little switch . I have several of these in my home network. I have some fairly long cat5e runs, going from one end of the house to the other, and I get solid 1GE link speeds on each. I have all kinds of POE devices and have not experienced any problems with power or link stability.
The switch is fan-less as far as I know (at least perfectly silent), nice heavy duty metal case and occupies a very nice compact footprint. I think the mix of half POE capable ports is and excellent design choice, especially when cascading switches.
I also like the feature which powers the numerically smallest port at the expense of the larger port number if you overload the POE power beyond the standard. My POE ports are loaded and there is plenty of power.
I think you could actually stand on the switch and it would survive, the solid mass is nice for holding ethernet cables to the switch's location rather than having the ethernet cables locate the switch.

Netgear ProSafe GS108P Ethernet Switch Opinions
Great switch for Gigabit plus PoE . I needed a compact gigabit switch capable of handling 3 computers, a NAS device, a Cisco 79xx VoIP phone and a Panasonic PoE webcam. I've had good prior experience with Netgear, so I decided to try this switch - with no complaints.
The switch has 8 ports, 4 with PoE and 4 plain Gigabit Ethernet ports. I suppose most folks will use one of the ports for an uplink to the rest of your network, so most likely, you'll be attaching up to 7 devices, up to 4 can be PoE.
I was most concerned about my Cisco 7900 series color phone, as I've had trouble with running these through some other brands of switches in the past. My phone powered on perfectly and booted from a remote SIP server with no issues whatsoever. Same for the webcam.
I didn't really expect to have any trouble with the computers or NAS devices - and I didn't. The network is fast and stable - no obvious difference versus plugging into the network directly without the switch (okay, not really true...if you have serious network performance management tools, you'll see that most operations through the switch are very, very tiny bit slower...).
I was a bit concerned about running the phone and everything else off a single shared connection, but so far, there have been no issues. I've been on calls while all of my other systems are busy transferring data over the switch, and so far, not one glitch whatsoever. I do use 802.1p traffic prioritization, so I'd expect the phone to keep working at the expense of other devices, and this might be exactly what's going on.
Add to this the fact that the Netgear is built like a tank with a nice (and pleasantly small) metal housing, it runs cool without requiring a fan, and it emits no noise whatsoever. About the only small complaint I have is that the status LEDs are a bit bright, making the switch a bit too obvious hidden under my desk (the office I use has a policy against using these types of switches).
Still, couldn't be happier, and I'd definitely recommend this product.

Perfect for PoE use . This switch performs perfectly. I am using it in my home media panel. The size of the switch really works well in that environment, or any application where space is limited. The construction is all metal on the outside, very solid and durable. I am using it to power several Avaya phones on my network and the PoE functionality works like a charm. If you have PoE enabled network devices, definately take advantage of this switch and lose the power cables!
