TP-Link TL-WN781ND 150Mbps Wireless N PCI Express Adapter with 1x 2dBi Antenna

This review is from : TP-Link WL TL-WN781ND 150M PCIE ADA
Makes use of an otherwise useless PCI-E slot . Modern motherboards seem to love PCI-E x1 slots for whatever reason, never mind nobody makes anything useful for them. My new build came with 2, while it had only one standard PCI slot, which used to be tied up with my old wireless adapter. This adapter seems to be working about as well as the old G adapter (that my connection speed only reads 54 Mbps may be due to the gateway as much as the card - and Uverse caps speed well below that anyway), so I'm happy with it. Much like the other review here, my signal strength habitually reads "Low", but despite that, I've only seen it drop signal or lag when I downloaded about 20+ GB of games off Steam one morning -- and that was probably my ISP getting a little upset with me, if anything. Otherwise, it does fine with UVerse, it doesn't hiccup much if at all, and I have that PCI slot freed up again for something else.

Cons Review
Gave it a try and ended up returning . Well, at the time of my purchase, this cards did not have any reviews and since the brand did not look familiar to me, I felt somewhat apprehensive. However, with my new motherboard, that does not have classical PCI, this PCIe WiFi card looked like an affordable solution, and I've decided to give it a shot. High speeds of the "n" standards are not important to me. I thought that I could use it in "g" mode until I will eventually upgrade my router to "n" level.

Unfortunately, the card, that is three times bigger than miniPCI WiFi cards in notebooks, worked three times worse, at least in "g." Since I don't own an "n" router, I have not tested it in "n" mode. In "g" it would have four bars only when the router was six feet away. In this case I can just use my Ethernet cable.

The packaging states that it's compatible with Windows 7, however, the mini-CD had only a driver for W7, but not the utility. Perhaps if there would be some utility to tweak settings, I could make it work, but since there are so many competing products out there, why bother spending time anyway? Returned to Amazon.
